I thought the rogue skiff was meant to be a class in concept? It seemed like a good idea bringing people together in outdated development boats to a sort of level rating (or handicap) class. In fact i think that should be done to save all the really nice but left to rot boats that are all over the place. Boats that are sort of 3-10 years out of date in their class could come together and race against other boats of similar age. Anything from old I14s and cherubs to merlins and N12s. Probably needs a new thread really!
Back on topic with the icon, now much does a new one cost if you were to have a ready to race boat with a launching trolley and top and bottom covers and foil bags?

I think it's a win- win as long as it's not over the top. I'm sure Cirrus appreciate the publicity but more than that it is a great opportunity to get feedback and for prospective sailors to voice an opinion. And of course, Y&Y get
more traffic. |

Rouge Skiff?
If you're referring to the Rogue Skiff, rather than some lipstick-related antipodean sailing item, then it was never a commercial project, nor intended to create a 'class'. Any following, interest and dialogue was greatly appreciated at the time, however at no point was it pimping, it was simply curiosity. The same can be said of the V-Twin, deluded/misguided as he is, I doubt very much Mr Fuller is expecting to commericialise the project.... he's more savvy than that, but if he can hook a few fishes on the way then I guess that adds to the experience. So the big tests in internet boat pimpsville... the X1 barely any pimping, how many boats sold? Icon, modest pimping... 3 at the Dash, not bad considering the N12/RS200 are established D1 very poor misguided pimping (initially)... what 6 owners at the nationals? RS100... group pimping, community driven... over 300 boats sold, 50+ at nationals pimp right, win. |

The 100 cant win it with hundreds of boats built and sold, the icon has 5 or 6 boats and 99 pages! Who has actually seen it sailing? I have seen a few pictures but never seen one on the water...
I have to agree that the v twin must take the prize! How did the alto fair in this ratio? Or how about the rouge skiff! There do seem to be a lot of boats that GRF has sailed that are associated to a lot of talk but not a lot of sailing! The 100 luckily escaped because he didnt like that anyway, it was too much hard work. So what happens when he realises the v twin is by far the ugliest boat anyone has ever seen, and that like the 100 he cant keep up with a laser in it? Which class will GRF ruin next? Answers on a postcard everyone!

But in Top Trumps the Icon scores highest on number of forum posts per sail.
But you have no idea just how many racing and test hours went into testing Icon to get it right ! Anyway it was lots and and lots .... but we all enjoyed the process really. Mike L. |
