I was driving the rib during that video... and it was blowing dogs off chains for a fai amount of the time. A little bit more canvass on the main would be my choice as you rarely get wind like that in the uk. But agree that not sure a kite would be my priority, just square top the main a bit more.

I can understand that point of view. And I sort of lean toward your thinking, but having a mould for people who want to build in foam shouldn't stop anyone from building in wood. The difference between wood and foam would only be the bare weight. And the min weight rule deals with that. Stiffness isn't an issue between the two materials as rig loads are low. And in fact most of the Nat Champ winning boats are wood.
For me if I were to build, (need to finish moving house first) I would build in wood for the cleaner ( relative term ), more aesthetic, more enjoyable process. And I don't see there is any need for any other reason than that. |

Don't forget who this is aimed at J. I think the sail size is fine. Of course if you wanted to put a bigger sail on it for fun, no ones stopping you. But if you wanted to change the rules I think you would kill the appeal and it's positioning. |

Well, my long term plan is to build mine while taking notes, photos and video in order to produce (hopefully!
![]() If all goes well with the build, and it is suitably simple (or not tooo dificult) to do, I may look into getting some comprehensive kits made up, if anyone's interested... There's a lot of "ifs" there, and it's all a ways off, but we'll see what happens, eh?

The complication there J is that if you are building from the laser cut AUTOCAD files you will have to account for the change in skin thickness when using foam. Foam will need to be thinker and has to be sandwiched, increasing the thickness. I have investigated having the AUTOCAD files altered, but as yet with no satisfactory result. I wouldn't say working in foam is easier than ply either, they both have there issues. Edited by Jack Sparrow - 11 Nov 11 at 10:22am |

Jack, I have AutoCAD mechanical so let me know if you want me to have a look at offsetting some of the lines to take into account skin thickness.

Its one of the most interesting features of the way the boats have developed in NZ is that they find rigs without spreaders are fast. This is an enormous advantage for a trapeze boat because it greatly simplifies the rig setup and means you can use moderate rig tensions. |

with reference to the sails, go and see your local sailmaker. he will be able to measure the boat and make what ever you want.

You can't help but think GRP could have saved himself a whole heap of money and embarrassment by getting one of these with a kite and getting it hacked for a centerboard ![]() Looks like a good boat for small people. |
