=====================================

Good luck with the next sail: sounds as if you have about a week of work in front of you really before you ought to go out again. That's the thing with boat projects compared to boards: with a board when you've completed the hull its damn near finished, with boats you're probably barely half way through even though it *looks* done.

Not sure about mesh on the racks: there's a school of thought that says in normal sailing they are more drag than cloth and I also don't like the snagging possibilities. They are less windage when capsized I agree.

With my boat I went for solid wings for the ergonomics and never regretted it: its so nice being able to run anywhere you like without a changing surface under your feet. Although the fill weighs it also means that you need very little lateral strength in the beams so you save some weight that way - at least if, like me, you are fabricating the beams rather than using pre made tubes. The downward load on the beams so much exceeds the other loads I figured it was worth it over using tubes, although the downside is more time and labour in the build and I didn't have to cost my own time.

Well done !!  ....

...now Greame you are really finding out exactly why it takes all that time to get virtually any boat sorted let alone optimised  .... it takes a lot of time and much more than you think.

Don't be tempted to cut corners, be prepared to modify and incrementally improve and the only limitations remaining will be those inherent in the basic concept.  There are too many 'good' boats out there that could have been 'great' ones if enough time had been taken at this stage.  You don't have the commercial pressure to complete the process 'tomorrow' on this one so be prepared for the longish haul.  BTW - Boards are much easier with far fewer variables and you can modify them very quickly ....

...  oh and lastly don't forget to enjoy the process !

Atrocity - have you ever heard the saying "better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than open it and remove all doubt"?

Could have done with your offer of a rescue boat dickwad, where were you?

You can't comment on forums like this unless you can back your play dude, no-one listens, no-one cares, had you been around I could have gotten out to film it on the water, we could have gotten a gps reading of the moment he let it go a bit off wind, we could have checked how close the racks came to the water when he flew one of the hulls, I'd have been out on the water when the kite went up rather than entertaining Rangers, cat sailors and fish murderers, you on the other hand have nothing credible to say cos you weren't there, a simple dick, do you like it that everyone thinks you're just a prick in front of a screen?

Jim,

So looking back at the design targets, how successful is it looking to you?
