It just struck me looking at that how similar the boat looks to a Solution. Sorry.

Thanks Triple Three, yes I'm in the process of getting the tow clamp changed for a 50mm. There is a guy at our club that runs a trailer business that will tasked with the alteration.
And yep, that box trailer is fantastic. On a side point. Is your boat ply or composite? If composite, if you have any build pictures I'd love to see them. It would be helpful for planning composite builds over here. |

Good to see you've got it on the water.
I just read in your blog about the towball size issues and that you were considering a flat bed trailer... I must say you got a really nice trailer with the boat, worth several thousand NZ$ by itself. The solution I would suggest is to replace the tow ball clamp on the trailer for a 50mm one that will fit your standard tow ball. It might be bolted or welded on, but either way it would be an easy fix. I don't know if the part is available in the UK but it most definitely is here. http://www.trojan.co.nz/index.asp?PageID=2145833596 Edited by Triple Three - 27 Jul 11 at 6:01am |

Did you work for 'Howdens' then? I reckon it would be a lot cheaper to make the mould over here than import it though. Especially a female mould, as my boat could be used or the Auto Cad files that I have been given could be used to quickly laser cut some ply for a plug to make the mould from. Glad you like the blog.

Nice. Like to see these boats getting a new lease of life over here. Been following the thread about import, building etc.
I know when I was sailing these in NZ there was a jig available from someone (possibly the class association if the memory is right). Maybe you could look to bring a jig over for those who want grp instead of ply construction. Thanks for the vid. |

Yep all possible, without wishing to highjack this Farr 3.7 thread, which is very true in that it could have saved me a lot of time and money, but then I'd never have found out. I still don't actually know anything for sure, but that is part of the kick, finding out. Some times you just have to ante up and go with a hunch, the centreboard thing is the imponderable, everyone says go for two, but then they become daggerboards and we're back to why the Vortex wouldn't work for me. Anyway with any luck end of next week we'll know, the wing wang device we've been working on took more time than expected and we've had to fit it out to possibly end up being a double hander because it's turned out so huge. I'm hoping for some more pics in the next couple of days.
