Miracle and outboard

   Hi, all

A simple question, apologies if you have answered it many times before.   I tried a search but I do not have a good wireless connection and gave up waiting....

A Mirror takes an outboard, no problem.   Will a Miracle?   The transom on the one I am looking at is not the big chunk of solid timber like the top of the transom on a Mirror.

	I have seen a couple in my workshop where one side of the transom has had the ply section in-filled to strengthen it for an outboard. I don't think you would want to put more than a couple of horsepower on there though. Graham

	Hi Simon, I used to use a Yamaha 2hp (2 stroke) on my Miracle. ( I still have both boat and motor but don't sail the Miracle for the time being) I had up to 4 people on board and the boat kept a good speed. It got a bit hairy when the wind picked up because of the hull being so light and due to the lack of a chine but the boat seemed to cope reasonably well overall. My major concern was the vibrations the motor caused. It sometimes felt like the boat was going to rattle apart. I imagine a 4stroke motor would cause less vibration. I did not use the mast and sails and I doubt whether you could use the rudder with the motor in place. I used to use a piece of ply just placed on the outside of the transom to give it some support. On the inside I used some rubber to protect the top bar of the transom. Ideally you should fit a permanent ply or aluminum plate bolted as reinforcement to the area. Just one word of advice, make sure that the propeller shaft is in the up position when moving down the slipway. I once got distracted and nearly ripped the transom off.

	Thanks for that, I will look at additional timber and maybe a bit of rubber insulation. Simon
