Hi, erm this is not realy a matter of choosing a boat but I was thinking about a compass as this year I am going to the topper worlds and nationals.

Is it needed?
If so could you please give me some advice on which make and moddle you would recomend for me?

I should probably say that I also sail a laser so dont want anything to topper specalist (eg. brackets that would only fit my topper)

If possible as little drilling as possible

Thanks Isaac

Most people use a tacktick compass, check if your class rules allow them though. You cant really mast mount it as the mast turns in your boat so you will need to screw it on somewhere.

I would argue in a big fleet that you dont need a compass, you will probably gain more with your head out of the boat looking for clean air sailing the fleet rather than be pre-occupied with numbers.... at least thats my view from the middle of the fleet, if you are expecting to do very well then you can worry more about the minor shifts the compass will highlight as clear air wont be as much of an issue.

If it'll fit your Topper, get the smaller Silva73R; when you move to race the Laser you just get a new bracket. It will work fine, and will be Laser Class-legal. The Tacktick is not Laser legal.

i think if its a laser it needs to be an analogue compass - tactic and the like are not class legal.
