In the 600 the class rules allow for one change of wing size durign a year - is there such a rig rule in the 100's?

Out of interest does your club let you rig change within a series?
I know it's now the same py but I think there may still be an issue with changing Rigs within a series. |

Grahame, I got my boat before you and made the 1 rig decision back then purely on my weight.
As you sound a similar weight to me I'm amazed you bought the big sail with the boat. I see no point in it For someone under 70kgs. Anyway I hope you stick with it and learn to appreciate the boat as an 8.4 rig. Cheers, Keith |

Well it sounds a big expensive deal, 1 rig, two rigs and you lot do have the benefit of hindsight, given I was one of the 1st jockeys on this boat, but I'd still make the same decision, it's only a 2nd sail after all, and a bit of tube.
Coming as I did from a Blaze which also claims a 10.2, I thought I'd cope with it in more wind.

That would be because we're all over 90kg... (and, apart from the relatively hobbit-sized nick, all over 6ft)
Well I reckon the lead f15 will have got me in the end but apart from that it was pretty damned good last night. The asy vortex got away a bit but then so it should in 15kts and a bit of chop upwind. Again the 100 trucked past the 400 downwind but I reckon I needed to foot off more on the first beat when it was strong wind against tide. Do they not have tides in Hythe? 5kts would be unsailable at HISC. |

Haroosh,
Good work. All of us down at Hayling just stick with one rig, I think it is what most people are doing!

well I am still a one rig guy
I find that the amount of kicker, cunningham and rake make a hugh difference to whether I get overpowered
with 3 holes and 3 rake if you ease the kicker and cunningham off and leave a lot of outhaul loose (sail 4-6 inches off boom) you can be fully hiked in 8 knts - and if you leave the settings like this it can get 'interesting' if the wind increases. I found that when the wind increased to ~15 -16 knts I spent more time in the water than on it with the settings like this - but then later on in those wind conditions with loads more kicker and cunningham and 4 and 4, everything became easily controllable again. The hard part (well for me one of the hard parts) is getting the adjustments right on the water as the wind changes

I just don't have the time or energy to choose rigs when I go sailing so I am using the boat as a one rig boat. I think alot of people may end up doing this????

Well Grahame,
We had our first Wednesday of the summer last night and it was around about 6 to 8 knots of wind. For me I felt it was perfect conditions for me with a nice big downwind leg. Upwind the 8.4 was lovely. Believe it or not I felt at about max power and just on the border of having to calm it down a little!! Anyway managed to beat the 200's on my new handicap which was my main target. Ian in the mps was off in the distance on his own. For me that was probably the ideal competitive conditions for me. Any windier and I start to struggle competitively up hill. See results below; http://www.eastmore.biz/cgi-bin/YachtReport2001.pl?file=dbsc%2Fdbsc_wed1_11.csv&type=Result&class=ASYM&race=27-Apr&x=87&y=17 Cheers, Keith |
