James,
My issue is the class concept last year when alot of us bought the boat was 2 rigs with 2 PY's. That seemed pretty clear to me. If this is still the classes view point should we not then question why the RYA have accepted the results they are using given that they dont seem to know which rig is being used? They have taken all results as one class when we all thought there were 2. We can blame the clubs as much as we want but its a new class and we can all understand how the confusion could happen but should the RYA accept the returns if they dont know the rig configuration. At the end of the day I will accept whatever PY is around and try my best with it but I do feel that this general PY will result in alot of the lighter guys being put off the boat and the hope was it would appeal to a broad range of weights.
Cheers,
Keith.

Morning:-)

James thanks for the tips - note to self, must try to sail faster when racing LOL

More generally, it would help if we knew what data had been returned to support the 998 PY number (e.g., whether any 8.4 returns were made?) - have asked Bas about this

There isn't much data as yet, but if we stop recording don't record who is sailing with what rig we will never know what the difference between the 8.4 and 10.2 should be

In the end do you think enough boats will be sold to make up two classes?  Have RS already sold more 100s than 300s for example?

So the RS100 84Club has to constitute itself as a separate class?

I'm waiting for news on the 75Club or is it 74?

Then I guess it'll have to be a sex change..

But the Laser has a different PY for each rig, the 100 does not!

My club couldn't agree on what time it is.
There is absolutely no chance they'd do anything other than what the RYA lists.

I guess like most clubs, they're dinghy sailors after all, what else would you expect?

And anyway it's manual office sort of work, 2nd level managerial stuff, nothing windsurfers would be interested in, just buy something else - simples.

OK - my suggesting 1007 for 8.4 was about encouraging Graeme, and his club to excercise their right to set local handicaps. i have little justification for making that statement - and in practice so far of course at class regattas it seems there is little or no difference - the weather and crew skill being deciding factors.
The "arrowhead" in the slot gasket is to allow water to escape.
Allowing swapping between sails - would be a matter for the class to decide - I would suggest that most would vote against?
Nick

Did your club do a PY return? If not then have done nothing to support you.

On that subject is there any plans for clubs to differentiate between the rigs in their returns? So we see if there is any real difference in the rigs over a longer period of time.

What about results from the nationals and euro regatta?  These might appear to show that skill factor is more important than sail size -  ( with more 8.4s in the top 10 than 10.2s in the overall results )

If the lumped together PY is 998, then increasing the 8.4 to 1007 would mean changing the 10.2 PY the other way to compensate...  to 991 LOL

What about the arrowhead in the flushing strip, what's the logic there?
