Hi Alex,

Depends slightly on what you regard as 'windy' but with the big rig in any sort of decent breeze you need MAX kicker - i.e pre-tensioned loops and then pulled on until it bottoms out. Only time I wouldn't do this is beating into choppy waves when you need to keep a smidge more power for drive.

Don't forget the downhaul is your biggest friend in breezy conditions - don't hesitate to pull in on hard - and I mean really hard !

Lots of kicker and max downhaul and you can cruise upwind in pretty much any breeze - then its just the downwind that can be so testing !

We've got 2 at L&L and third coming over from PD.  Maybe we should get together with the B&FYC and have a northern event :-)

Replace the cunningham setup by adding 2 more blocks and getting rid of the cascade, rig so you have 2:1 acting each side of the sail giving 4:1 total.  I will post pics if needed. With this setup you get max travel and the same power, if the weather is truly nuclear when you launch you can simply rig this one side of the sail and then put a primary line in like the original setup to give 8:1 cunningham.

• Pad the risers on the trolley gunwhale hangers - or you will chip the gelcoat when boat does not immediately sit true
  
• Essential: Fit a kite halyard trip cord (see RS100sailing.com)
  
• Put plastic rings on the kite-sheet elastics or the shockcord sucks itself into the ratchets
  
• Don't shackle the mainsail tack to the boom, it makes horrible creases - use 2 ties - around boom and mast - let tack sit 3-4 inches back from shackle point
  
• get some plastic tube for gnav bars and reduce nasty sail chaff
• hopefully RS have changed the main halyard spec - the early ones had a short life
• swap the block the kite halyard goes thru at back of boat for a big plastic ring. Halyard twists jam in the block and cause all sorts of nashing of teeth
  
• Drill small hole near edge of frankentein gooseneck nut, thread thin string thru, tie into a loop and pass main halyard retaining elastic thru that loop. Stops nut coming loose or £5 to RS when it falls overboard
  
• I now have made tapered 4mm Excel racing kite sheets - much  better in the light stuff
• Check the friction pad on the plate is tight enough
• Prolube the mast join(s) before connecting - they get really hard to pull apart 
• Budget more time than usual to rig before each race - and check everything before launching - I still make schoolboy rigging errors and fixing them on the water can be a challenge

The boat is actually really well-sorted but I recommend all of these

And get sailing, it's a great boat

Answers: breeze ranged from nothing to perhaps 6-7mph. Correct, I was having to work quite hard here to get up to a mark with the kite up - bearing off was not an option, but easing the main a bit would have made it less demanding. Also I have big rig up with my 12.5 stone. Flat water - why sit back and drag her a**e

Gnav: the angles on the bar wear the sail, so i've (white) taped plactic tube on the arms. I will swap for black tape if white offends.

No wet-suit, only Rooster hikers, without the pads. I have a lucious full head of hair, but someone photoshopped me. Perhaps.
