Hi Alex,
Depends slightly on what you regard as 'windy' but with the big rig in any sort of decent breeze you need MAX kicker - i.e pre-tensioned loops and then pulled on until it bottoms out. Only time I wouldn't do this is beating into choppy waves when you need to keep a smidge more power for drive. Don't forget the downhaul is your biggest friend in breezy conditions - don't hesitate to pull in on hard - and I mean really hard ! Lots of kicker and max downhaul and you can cruise upwind in pretty much any breeze - then its just the downwind that can be so testing ! Cheers Chris RS100 GBR122 |

For refrence where does everyone think max kicker is on the big rig? I have pulled the rollers down to the baby rig holes (and ran out of travel cos i didn't shorten the loops) but anyone pulling further than this?

We've got 2 at L&L and third coming over from PD. Maybe we should get together with the B&FYC and have a northern event :-)

I’ve had mine a few weeks now and not gone too mad on the bimbles.. · Put stopper bobbles on the toe strap’s, so when I adjust straps and the rope isn’t quite in the jammer you don’t do a double pike into the drink · Upgraded the cunno (same as 100 site) · Kite halyard bungie take up, I’ve put hook on one end so it can be released when storing the boat and put a block with twisty shackle on the other end to stop twists in the rope. · Tip – I just put a piece of tape from the boom on to the Frankenstein nuts to stop kite sheets catching One thing has anyone come up with a cool fitting for the tactic bracket? Bit of a pain with the curved deck. Alex 131 |

Replace the cunningham setup by adding 2 more blocks and getting rid of the cascade, rig so you have 2:1 acting each side of the sail giving 4:1 total. I will post pics if needed. With this setup you get max travel and the same power, if the weather is truly nuclear when you launch you can simply rig this one side of the sail and then put a primary line in like the original setup to give 8:1 cunningham.

Over in the Icon thread, GRF was his usual lucid self in response to a pic of me at the Frensham Frenzy
![]() ![]() saying : He's got the kite up hasn't he? looks a bit breezy to be a total drifter, don't think i could handle that much wind at that point of sailing, certainly not sat that far forward and the main sheeted that far in, without a weight jacket.. And what are all those white things on the Gnav.. And why is he wearing his wetsuit half way up his thighs.. And hasn't he heard of regain? ![]() Answers: breeze ranged from nothing to perhaps 6-7mph. Correct, I was having to work quite hard here to get up to a mark with the kite up - bearing off was not an option, but easing the main a bit would have made it less demanding. Also I have big rig up with my 12.5 stone. Flat water - why sit back and drag her a**e Gnav: the angles on the bar wear the sail, so i've (white) taped plactic tube on the arms. I will swap for black tape if white offends. No wet-suit, only Rooster hikers, without the pads. I have a lucious full head of hair, but someone photoshopped me. Perhaps. |

The first dinghy series of the year in plymouth is almost over now! Its funny because back home in southampton there is very little at this time of year for dinghies, its all yacht racing, but in plymouth its the other way round, yacht racing doesnt start until april. Either way I have had some awesome days sailing so far this year in some amazing weather! We even had our first BBQ yesterday because it was so warm!
