No it's not me, but it is a ploy oft used in the commercial sector, employing anti sentiment trolls to get the ball rolling, but in this case not. This whole thing is what it appears, just me doing what I do best, indulging myself.

It is one of the regulars however and I'm trying to guess who, don't think its MB or TT or Wing wang, could it be that Topper sailing French woman? She's always been a big fan - Not, I dunno, it doesn't do any harm, I'm not offended, annoyed or even irritated, everyone is due an opinion its what makes the world go round and she's probably right (It must be a woman with a name like atrocity), but I bet she doesn't show up in the rescue boat she promised.

It could be a cunning bit of forum manipulation and psychology. Come up with someone who opposes what you are trying to do, become very outspoken and gain support from your fellow forumites under your other name for your project through defence to the outspoken critic. Would be a very cunning ploy and hats off to you Mr. Fuller if it is.... Clap
 
I don't have a problem with what Atrocity has been saying, some of it has actually been quite valid. I think there is potentially too much jumping on band waggons from time to time. (Apologies Atrocity if you are not Graeme).

I agree with you on all other points and from experience would suggest that an old hull can be fine in most conditions - especially inland. The two areas in which a newer, stiffer and probably lighter hull seemed to be faster was in waves and also getting onto the plane faster.
 
Hence your experiences must be down to technique ?


I can think of three reasons for an old boat planing first:
1) Lighter helm?
2) being sailed (or pumped?) more effectively
3) new boats built to lower standards than old boats

The increasing flexibility of aging single skin GRP and its negative effect on boatspeed is well proven and understood.
However it is just one item in the equation.
I think this has drfited a long way from wanting a credible explanation of why GRF's pipedream would not be slow.
