All gone cold on the V-spin or is it being launched at the Dinghy show? Thought not. I'm still waiting for the launch date, the offer of rescue cover still stands!
It will not get built 'cos he knows it won't work. Worst idea i have seen in years. Remember where you heard it first.

That may be true at the top level of sailing but at club level (where 99% of Laser sailers are) the age (and even condition) of their hull make much less difference that the nut on the end of the tiller.
My boat hull is pretty ols (mid to lkate 80's I believe) and I am still regularly at the front of the fleet. Yes it does feel different to the brand new Laser I had once upon a time however it is no slower. Despite it's age it does plane very quickly compared to much newer boats.
At our open meeting it is up there and I am sure if I put a little more time in to it and went travelling I would give a good account of myself on the circuit.
This is with foils that are in needs of some tlc and a sail that has definitely seen much better days!

So having not kept up with this thread ... Will we be able to see the boat at the Dinghy Show as I believe was originally promised? |

I don't believe that was ever promised by GRF. Quite the opposite in fact... But something that was still in the PC at the end of January is hardly likely to make Sailboat the same year. Edited by JimC - 25 Feb 11 at 5:54pm |

Although cuddly Mr Fuller can be offensive at times there is no need to denigrate his experimental efforts. He is doing what many of us wish we were doing.
On another note and off topic but not worth starting a new thread for. Could Datchet SC revue the material that they make their dinghy park stickers out of, I have just spent half an afternoon removing Dachet 2008, Dachet,2009 and Dachet 2010 from my new/old Byte! |

No it wont be at the dinghy show, I still haven't pushed the 'go' button, all these trade shows and girl flue and new brands and general hyperwork frenzy have pushed pleasure items to the back of the queue.
Suddenly I've never been so bloody busy plate spinning... |

What a surprise!
I do not always naturally 'side' with Greame .... however even to get to an abstract concept stage beyond a doodle or two takes time and committment and some money. To go further takes a hell of a lot more committment and a lot more money and it is not a decision to ever be made lightly unless you have money and time to waste. I think it was never realitic to expect it to happen overnight .... but lets not knock him on this one. We only really learn by 'doing' in the end and sometimes you have to 'put up or shut-up' and do it, but only if you are still fully convinced, and sometimes you have to reconsider the full implications and gently back away. Neither of these choices is automatically 'right' - it all depends on the circumstances. If it does not happen in the end that may be the best decision allround but at least he may now knows more of the 'route' to developing new boats, even possibly a 'one-off' - it is tough and risky and not to be underestimated. One thing is certain - if you never think outside the box you will always spend your life in it. Mike L. Edited by blaze720 - 26 Feb 11 at 11:03am |
