for whoever was asking about the radial sails. the MK3 sail was the hideous, multicoloured designs. then came the MK4 which was the one with '5.7' written on it (no blue corners). the MK5 was the first to have the blue corners and was followed by the MK6 which was a flatter cut and easier to depower. although i was about 10stone 5 i still preferred the MK5. seemed to pick up earlier and i was used to it. sailed a MK6 sail and just couldnt get on with it (sure would have got it with time).

Busted Topper top sections make good Laser boom sleeves.
On that note has anyone tried busted Laser top sections as Topper Bottom sections?
Topper bottom sections are 50.8 mm x 1.6256 mm
I believe Laser top is 16 SWG (1.63mm)
but Topper Bottom is 14SWG (2.03mm)
please correct me if I'm wrong
Both are 2" (50.8) |

You can normally find old/snapped booms people don't want. When they snap the insert stays intact so you can still use them.By the class rules Laser have to supply the inserts but good luck getting one out of them!

The idea of a 'cup' to hold the Laser mast is not a new one by any means. It has just taken a very long time to come to fruition. Whether this was because there were tests conducted in private by ILCA and there were material issues or whether it just took the class a long time to convince the builder we will never know!
