Does anyone know who holds the copyright for the video "Fourteens are Forever"?  I bought it some years ago from the National Maritime Museum, but they now deny that they hold the copyright.   I no longer have a video player, and want the cotnents moved on to a DVD, and the firm which does this work is reluctant to do it until they've seen a letter approving the work!

It's very frustrating!

I think you can buy software and some sort of attachment for a PC that connects to the video player so you can make your own copy of it. Its probably not very legal but once you have it it means you can do it with any video you want.

My suggestion would be to check with Jeremy Pudney as he handled the promotion for the 14's at the 14's are forever stage, if not him I bet he knows who to talk to.

I am sure as long as it is for personal use only then it will be OK.

Alternatively post it on youtube or anywhere else and wait to be sued......

Ask Dick Johnson at Musto - he organised the 14 thing at last year's Dinghy Show.

If you want a letter from the 14 class confirming no objection to transferring the material to dvd, pm me your contact details and I'll send you one

All I would ask in return is that we DO get it online!

I take it there is no copyright statement or any other clues about who produced it on the film itself?  If the Maritime Museum sold it to you and say they don't have the copyright, then if anyone did actually claim it I could only imagine it would have been the class association (see above) or someone who made the film for the association - in either case I can't imagine anyone is sitting around waiting for the royalty cheques to fund their retirement, it's publicity material/part of the history we'd be glad to have made available - but I'll ask Dick and a couple of others if they know anything about it....

We had loads of old family video so we bought one of these:

The transfer of vid to cd didn't produce any noticable loss of quality.

It was a bonus when someone at the club produced video of the 14 worlds at PBSC in 1983, it was blowin old boots. The original video quality wasn't good, 1983 being really early for vid but it's still watchable.........keep meaning to put the whole thing on youtube.

Here's a short, small format clip I put on flickr.
