We live under 10 miles from our club (about 9 by road and 7 on the bike - using seafront is shorter).
On the way, we get within the vicinity of 3 sailing clubs. on top of that, Brighton SC is closer from us than Lancing, although in the opposite direction.

When we first joined Lancing, Mark had just bought his first Contender and wanted to join the fleet. The fact that the membership was considerably cheaper than other local clubs was also a deciding factor.
We found in our club something I had never seen in other clubs: friendly people who don't care what you sail (or even sail at all) or where you come from. If you need help, they're here for you, on the water, on the beach or in the clubhouse. Most people help in their capacity and we get very decent turnout every sailing day. Great atmosphere, I wouldn't go anywhere else!

Alex, where can I get your " transporter" ?   PD to L&L in 25mins is brilliant. I think Liverpool to PD in around 90mins is good en route to SCYC !!!  you'll need to watch out for the BMW and mondeo on the 55.

To the Reservoir club its actually about six miles( in next to no time) if I go on 2 wheels-but in the past I have left kit on boats but sadly received EMail saying there has been a spate of thefts at the club, so one has to accept trust is no longer an option and confine my going there by motorbikes, to if I am OOD or on rescue boat(Piaggio based Maxi scooter has loads of carrying capacity for lifejacket etc in particular but I can see a cycle might present carryiong probs).
If the weathers iffy and the club lounge is locked a car is a better bet.
I get invites to sail on a friends 27 foot Sabre mainly, usually on the Orwell, Deben and or Stour.
When I moved here first off, I joined Stour club just down the road . Whilst it was great with excellent folk, a lot of it was bar based, and I wanted to get sailing again in small boats after a 30 year lay off.
Being in 3 clubs eventually seemed a bit silly, so I dropped out.
It is 9 miles to the Suffolk club, if I go down past Oulton Water and by The Royal Hospital Scool,or 12 on the main Ipswich road, down under The Orwell Bridge, past Foxes, along the picturesque road past Freston and down to Wolverstone.

It was a 2min walk from the house at PD (about 95% of the members lived in the village)
Now it's 25min in car to get to L&L.  Lots of clubs around but chose L&L because it was the biggest and more competition.
