Sailing Club Catchment Areas

   dinghy sailing club is 5 miles (which i attend most often), the yacht club is 20 miles.

the sailing club ive always been a member of and will continue to be so, mainly for the people and then the racing.  the yacht club because its the best one around and where i kept my boat because its where the crew live.

	I drive 40+ miles (about an hour) because that's where my nearest fleet is, and we have a combination of easy, safe launching and proper channel waves for racing in (on?). I pass several clubs en-route, but none offer Shoreham's friendly facilities. I am by no means the furthest traveller to our club! Launching a modern foam sandwich boat across a shingle beach with a shore dump is a recipe for disaster. Nearest puddle (20 mins away) has a length limit is is completely unsuitable for trap boats, although I sailed hikers there for a few years.

	11 miles to a reservoir , alternative is 8.5 miles to a river club.

	When I raced Ospreys it was 14 miles to the club (about 1/2 hour drive). These days it's more like six miles and maybe 10 minutes drive. The current club is the nearest to me.

	Just out of curiosity really. How far do you travel to your preferred sailing club and how long does it take you to get there? Do you drive past any other clubs in favour of going to the one you are a member of? If you do drive past others why did you not join them? Edited by chrisg - 08 Feb 11 at 2:44pm
