I use the rooster polilite 7mm (the yellow one). It needs a go through the washing machine before you use it on the water to get the oils out that are used in production. Its not slippy if you do this.
You do need to dead end it properly everytime you rig but then it behaves nicely. I don't wear gloves and find the thin yellow one fine even in strong winds.

I may be horribly wrong, but was part of the deal of the new Harken blocks not that they would work better with a larger diameter sheet?

I recently sold my Laser however I found that a 6mm mainsheet worked well for me. I used Rooster's 6mm polilite and found that it ran through the blocks very smoothly and rarely got snagged up. It's may be relevant that I always wear gloves and without gloves 6mm may be a bit too thin,

I use Maffioli Swiftcord, 8mm. I've also got some 6mm intended for light weather, but I've found the 8mm does pretty well all round, so I've never bothered to change it. I found the Rooster stuff horrible to use and very slippy. The Maffioli doesn't kink, but is much grippier and softer. Having arthritic fingers grip on the rope is critical for me, others with younger hands might be able to get on with the Rooster mainsheet, or be happy with the 6mm instead of the 8mm! |
