Seems like more organised bullsh*t to me, hardly surprising numbers are down. I'd have been pretty peeved if I'd hiked the Alto all the way up there to be given a bollox PY of 915 against 924 of the much faster over the water 29er.
As to those results, how the hell do they come to the conclusion on that sailjiuce blog that a 'Phantom' is the overall winner? And another thing whilst I'm on, faintly interested as I am, not ever having done one of these things, but how can a 505 be "medium' and an Alto "fast". Very confusing this, no wonder it's all dying away. I wonder does it have to go away completely before the sailing bureaucracy finally realise it's a dumbed down world out here, we don't get it, we don't like to ask at race briefings because we don't like to seem dumb and if we haven't been 'through the squaddie mill' we're never likely to come again, it's all too confusing even for those of us returnees from the past.

Graeme from what i have seen of the production Altos they are PDQ. I would think 915 is still a little generous.
Jimbo we were in the 'Medium' Fleet pal.

I must say Olly you sailed the thing really well, Not sure how well it will go on a decent W/L course as the kite looks a little small but upwind it shifted really well. We were really impressed.

Ha ha i was going to put exactly the same thing, the two other 505s out there are exceptionally quick crews. With at least 5 stone less in the boat then us! We should be racing in the kiddi fleet!

Who decided it should be 915, clearly no-one who's ever sailed it competitively, sounds like another sailing jobsworth wind up. So how is it 505's get to go in two different fleets, what is it, you can choose your course? Or is it weight driven, or like a Rhettards grouping for sailors who just sail from one side of the river to the other? Alto should be no lower than 925 and actually performs about right at 930. Other than maybe dead running, there is no point of sailing where it will out perform a 29er.

Graeme, you had better ask Olly & Gareth to slow down in their travelling Alto as at the Draycote Dash they returned a suggested handicap of 900....

Not sure i agree with that James, with the swinging pole surely the alto is quite at home sailing on pretty much any course. Isnt that the beauty of it?

Thats the tale they tell. Whether its actually significant or not is another story. It would be interesting to see properly calculated polar diagrams. |

Presumably it's these guys? Yes it can happen if the wind and course suit, as it does with all boats (especially with a 'hotted up' version like that one) interesting foil and suit of sales. ![]() With Photo acknowledgement to chrisgandy2001 on flikr Which doesn't seem to like being re transmitted, I shall have a look and find out why after breakfast.
