Had a lovely sail in our Graduate (single handed) - a lovely bright winters day at Alton Water, five boats out making the most of a relatively mild day (+ 7 degrees C), very theraputic and just what the doctor ordered,

AWESOME days sailing today at draycote!!!
first proper wind for weeks!
hints of white horses at times in the gusty conditions aswell :)
a brilliant feeling to see a moth foiling along beside you downwind in the cherub, and not going any faster
17knots on GPS peak :)

We were out at Crosby today.
Saturday we had no ice, go down this morning to find a thin sheet of ice on a sea water filled lake !  A few good runs with the safety boats saw more of a slush. Cool and very little wind but we got out  and got  rid of some heavy heads after last night club Christmas party.
Better a crap day in Abersoch than any day at work.

Thats really irritating - 80 miles away at Burghfield we probably only had 5 knots of breeze so i didn;t mind too much that the lake was frozen....had it been that windy i would have been like a bear with a sore head.

A few boats out at Pevensey. We volunteered to do safety boat. The sun was out, light winds but enough and flat sea.

We set a shortish course aiming for 3 lap races lasting about 30 mins. Didn't suit the single cat of course but the light winds meant he was going to struggle anyway.

.........those warps and chains were very cold when we pulled them out

Lake frozen in Hillingdon, first time this year.

I believe water will only freeze when wind is light to nothing. When its blowing, it cant freeze as easily.

Lets hope there is no snow this weekend, I want to sail, last time before Christmas.

So, lets reanimate this thread.

Back to the TT circuit, with a disappointing six boats at Rutland for B14 TT1. Sharing the racecourse  with the 49ers and Mustos.

Yesterday was cold. Very cold. A lot windier than midweek forecasts had predicted. Windier than forecasts that morning predicted. But cold. Oh so cold. Having taken a dip, my helm was in the early stages of hypothermia after two races, so we missed the further two- long gaps between races didn't help- we were last, but even we had ages to wait. Frustrating from an otherwise good race team- it wasn't as if marks were being shifted around.

This morning we were running rather better, in much less wind. Many failed to make it to the start in time- laziness to blame rather than mis-set alarm clocks in most cases. B14 fleet came together somewhat, and during the first down wind leg in the first race even we found ourselves leading- unheard of. The lottery soon helped sort things out, but we did avoid last places in both races which made us happy.

As we headed for shore, with racing over, the sun started to breakthrough...

We had a superb day at Hythe, light Easterly about 5-8knots, so rigged the big sail, byt the time I launched it was 10 knots, which climbed to 12 knots as the 10 minut went, co-inciding with my first trip into irons.

Banged on loads of downhaul (I'd re routed my downhaul to get maximum travel the day before) that worked, went up wind a bit, tried bearing off... Not a chance, dumped kicker, still no way, tacked over, went inshore managed a bear off close in got back down to the line, watched the whitecaps appearing downwind decided discretion was the better option, not wanting to be the main rescue boat botherer this time of year and kicked myself for not sticking to the 8.4...

Very dispirited, have two options now, sell the damn thing or go on a vacation to somewhere like that Minorca place and see if i can learn how to sail it.
