bferry: we lived in Malta for a couple of years when I was a kid, but by the time we'd acclimatised and our blood had thinned we stopped swimming by the winter. 19 degrees - far too cold for lying on the beach! Sounds good for sailing though. Is there regular dinghy racing? Whereabouts?

Got a race in on the Medway in pretty light airs on Sunday morning. Others got a bit more wind in the afternoon, but by that time I was in the shower trying to defrost the blocks of ice I normally refer to as feet.

I recall seeing dry socks in the catalogues of 'the big two' chandlers in the past, but the only waterproof socks I see listed now are Sealskin socks which are great for walking (breathable too), but not much use in a dinghy as the water just gets in over the top of them when you launch  Unhappy

Medway Maniac: I should have mentioned having a pair of Hikers, a glideskin top and an aquafleece!  I'm not brave enough to sail with less than that even in the sunny weather. I prefer to feel overdressed than suffer hypothermia.

I presently sail with one of the local clubs called Birzebbuga Sailing Club in the Marsaxlokk Bay.  They have a good optimist and laser fleet and are also building up a Miracle fleet.  There is regular club racing here as well as more races at a National Level organised by the Malta Sailing Federation.

So come on then out of the pondies who could actually sail this weekend? I took someone out in an L2K yesterday as she wants to learn how to use and assymetric kite.  Shame there was very little wind.

Dissappointingly light breeze at Roadford yesterday, but we were out and racing.

Sailing at Maylandsea bay was cancelled like many other places due to the snow.

As for pond sailing, only patches in Hillingdon, still possible if you fancy it.

Pevensey had a couple of races, fingers a bit cold on the beach but very nice once we got going. Smile Light but OK winds and a very flat sea with quite a tide. Small course was good practice for us in a symmetric.

We could be in for a loooong winter if we keep getting wind forecast like that http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?sc=96821
Seems recently the wind has taken the day off on the sabbath?
