Sailing at Maylandsea bay was cancelled like many other places due to the snow.
As for pond sailing, only patches in Hillingdon, still possible if you fancy it. |

Dissappointingly light breeze at Roadford yesterday, but we were out and racing.

So come on then out of the pondies who could actually sail this weekend? I took someone out in an L2K yesterday as she wants to learn how to use and assymetric kite. Shame there was very little wind.

Medway Maniac: I should have mentioned having a pair of Hikers, a glideskin top and an aquafleece! I'm not brave enough to sail with less than that even in the sunny weather. I prefer to feel overdressed than suffer hypothermia. I presently sail with one of the local clubs called Birzebbuga Sailing Club in the Marsaxlokk Bay. They have a good optimist and laser fleet and are also building up a Miracle fleet. There is regular club racing here as well as more races at a National Level organised by the Malta Sailing Federation. |

bferry: we lived in Malta for a couple of years when I was a kid, but by the time we'd acclimatised and our blood had thinned we stopped swimming by the winter. 19 degrees - far too cold for lying on the beach! Sounds good for sailing though. Is there regular dinghy racing? Whereabouts?
Got a race in on the Medway in pretty light airs on Sunday morning. Others got a bit more wind in the afternoon, but by that time I was in the shower trying to defrost the blocks of ice I normally refer to as feet.

Sailed the last few Saturdays. It still feels like summer here and the wind has been great over the last couple of weekends. October to April is the best time for sailing here with little sea traffic and not too intense sun. Last Saturday, temperature around +19degrees C (note the +), wind 12 knots Southwest with some light choppy waters. Did some race practice with a dozen lasers, a miracle and a couple of mirrors. Lost my footing on the final race start line and took a dunking to windward. Text book mistake and a bit embarrassing. After a couple of hours the Lasers went in, I stayed out and had a blast around with the Vareo kite. Beached the boat in the nearby bay and lay on the sand soaking up the sun and having a beer. Then set off for another couple of hours blasting in the bay with a couple of laser standards. |

Down in balmy reading it was only -2 on the way to the club...but unfortunatley the wind remainsed elusive so no sailingbefore most people - including myself - had gone home.
I'm a little worried that the lake seems to be icing slightly which if the water is that cold in late November it doesn't body well for an ice free winter!!
