Yes, that was my take on it, but it does show how damn fast the 300 is to be a similar speed without the kite! I miss my 300, as someone I know said at his birthday recently, "this growing old business is a chalenge!"

It's the tight reaches that do it. The 300 is quicker than a Musto Skiff on a one-sail reach!
Maybe with you in Mr B, not with my sorry ass!! LOL LOL  In all seriousness you are right, the 300 is just awesome on a tight reach.  Its also pretty quick by the lee, i found at the Bloody mary this year i was almost as fast as the hiking Assy boats that were sailing the angles.

I would be surprised if there's not a lot more to come from the 100 yet. The fleet is still in its first year. I have seen a marked increase in the standard of the 300 fleet from when I first joined the class in 2002. I'm sure it will be the same in the 100 as people spend more time in their boats and get to grips with some of the idiosyncracies.

I think young Mr Childs won it from what I've heard. Meanwhile the 100s and 300s were doing battle from Emsworth, leading a 30+ boat fleet home: I went and saw the start on Sunday and looking at results, it was David Acres (300) first and Tim Weedon (100) 2nd a finn 3rd and 300s 5th and 7th too- now that looks an interesting contest! I'm intrigued to see where the 100 handicap  ends up relative to the 300- at the moment it looks about right, but is there more to come from the 100? Edit: James got there before me!

Do we have any word yet on how the inlands went? Looking at the wind's for the weekend I was quite annoyed at no going but I really needed a day off after the run of work I've been on for the last few weeks. I was out at HISC yesterday though, lovely day with clear skies, bright sunshine and the joy of the water being warmer than the air. Despite the perfect 10.2 conditions (8-10kts), a good course, full tide with the beat going with the flow, I still couldn't beat the majority of the merlins or FFs. Looking at the times it appears that the 11pts that we were docked from our handicap has lost me a chunk of places in both races, where I used to be able to get inside the top 5 when sailing well (and I think I sailed really well yesterday) I'm now down in 10th & 11th!! It's gutting watching the merlins chug past you on the last beat despite wringing the neck out of the boat.

Well I might well take you up on your very kind offer!  Just have to try and fit some practice in first!

Cool stuff. Big smile

Grumpf, I've told you plenty of times you can try my boat any time you like!  It's parked at Grafham now, so any time you're passing give me a call...

....and no, Cambridge is not oop north!

I reckon the RS100 would do well at Grafham - it's a nice big stretch of open water.  Are there any there already?

What Nationals? What boat?

Mines out of action right now, and I'll be needing to try a Contender some time soon as a return favour, if it's a 100 you're after.
