was that so you could remember days when England could beat a team that Scotland had beaten a mere week beforehand? A Scotland team that I will actually be happy to point out rather struggled to beat Samoa?

At 9.30 at Draycote yesterday it was between -9C and -11C (dependant on whose car you choose to believe).
I walked up to the 5oh - no wind
10 minutes to get the cover off
30 minutes to un-freeze the main sheet
Break for a cup of tea and a bacon bap
20 minutes to un-freeze the main sheet
Still no wind
Replaced a couple of control lines
Made some standing rigging adjustment
Still no wind
10 minutes to un-freeze the main sheet
Put cover back on
Cup of tea
A light wind picked up
Go home
Bottle of Red, an open fire and the 2003 Rugby World Cup final
Excellent days work!! Edited by Contender 541 - 29 Nov 10 at 6:21pm |

I discovered my limits yesterday. The fact that it was minus 10 C and the lock on the shed where I keep my sail was frozen should have given me a clue, but when I got to the club it seemed deceptively sunny (I won't say warm...) so three of us raced.
The floor of the boat was like an ice rink, my control lines would not run due to small lumps of ice forming on the ropes stopping them going through the blocks, the bungee cord takeaways lost their elasticity, the mainsheet froze up and would not ease and when I was packing up the skin on my hands kept sticking to the metal boom and wings.
Next time I'm staying in bed!

After the Thread I started saying, now its winter what you lot doing, well I too have jumped ship and moved the boat to another club.
As you can see from my sig, I have ditched the 700 and bought a Feva to sail with my little brother (12) as a parent child (more big brother/little brother) combo. Two weekends ago we took to the water at Maylandsea Bay SC (Essex), him wearing 2 wetsuits me one summer one, and yes it was cold but we finished the first race in 9th place, out of 18, not bad for a new boat and a crew who hasn't sailed for 3 months. We went out at the weekend, this time with the kite on the Feva, again finishing halfway up the fleet even though we are near the back over the line. Second race on Sunday little bro decided it was too cold, so I ditched the jib and sailed it with main and kite solo as the intention would be if he wasnt able to sail. I though was keeping up with the back end of the Radials even with a 100 PY point difference between the Feva and the Radial. So even though its winter, sailing still continues. |

Was at WPNSA for the Laser Qualifier. Got a reasonable result despite being way off form, particularly on the Sat. Was a lovely sailing weekend with more wind than expected, although it did switch off pretty much exactly when predicted on Sun.
Was interesting to see some of the home build speed week crafts in the boat park - a couple I couldn't work out which bits actually went in the water!

In the menu bar, there's a button called "Background". Unfortunately, it doesn't delete the page background!

It certainly does that, everyone should do speed week once in their life, it's an amazing celebration of English eccentricity.
