so who is going to lend me a boat for the nationals?  I'll have just finished the contender worlds down there in Weymouth, any excuse to stay gratefully accepted!

I live in hope....

I don't know what the board set up is on the 100, but is there a loop of rope or anything similar attached to the top (like on the 200). If there is, is there anywhere a piece of strong shock cord can loop around (aft toe strap fittings)? Works pretty well on my boat even with a fairly loose board - shock cord is loose enough so the board will start to come up if grounded, but not so that on a flat out reach it comes up more than about an inch.

You could use the old method of screwing a short lenght of garden hose pipe to the front of the board when in the down position from the cockpit with the board down so the hose pipe is still in the center board case with the board is fully down.
Then tighen the screws to compress the hose which will cause the pipe to widen to fill the gap thereby causing fiction.

use japp tape not duck tape.

It's common for boats to use this method (seen it done on most boats ..100,400, phantoms, solos, solutions) it's really hard for the centre board case to be so many mm wide and the board to be  an exact fit.

I am still having trouble with the board on my 100, the same trouble that ruined my nationals! Angry

Basically, no matter how tight i do up the screws on my centreboard brake i cannot get it to grip well enough to hold my board down!

My next plan is to add strips of duck tape to the slot in the area where it sits when the board is fully down so it grips well in that position.

Anyone else have any better ideas, just I am sick of having to tie it down.

Guys, can I just say that when things go well and you get it right, the RS100 is a real joy to sail.  I am not the best sailor by miles, but the feeling of the boat is fantastic - light, responsive, fast, fun, exhillerating and more - its hard to describe.  just sail and worry less

" Seperate class within a class" as Captain Slow suggested is exactly how it is:

1. Seperate prizes and trophies for 10.2 and 8.4 at all championships and opens. All boats race together until such time as numbers allow otherwise.
2. An "overall" / "superchamp" would be nice - but at the moment he just seems to be the one who does the speech!)
3. Class rules have always been clear re changing rigs.

Because it is so easy to have 2 sails - all boats have the same mast - maybe 30% of owners have 2 sails - it can help maximise use of the boat - eg other members of the family or sailing the boat in conditions that would normally leave you ashore. Or it can help the guy who gains confidence - gains or loses weight - or changes venue. Just like Laser / Radial. Surely a benefit, not a confusion.

the handicap thing is seperate Merlinboy - whether they are same or wildly different does not change class rules......so for your club racing - different classes with probably different handicaps: - but that is not upto us as Mr Brace so perfectly puts it!

"Sounding as though we are making it up as we go along" is hardly fair unless you misinterprate rantings on a forum! Easily done...!

Thank you Nick for clarification, a 'pinch of salt' is indeed added to most views including mine on this forum and I would truly like to see the 100 class prosper further. But I do think its critical at this stage of success the class has been blessed with already due to hard work, great marketing and an excellent product it defines its roadmap now as I believe there is a certain amount of bewilderment out there with regards to the rig/class. This can only have a detrimental effect on future sales if there are even a handful of prospective clients waiting to see what happens before ordering or choosing their preferred class.

Personally I believe a seperate class within a class would be the way forward encouraging the better sailors into the class competing on more even turf. This would certainly be the best foundations to build on although maybe not the get rich quick scheme.

While we are at it - the 7.4 has little roach, and a pink clew swoosh! Hard to miss.
Nick fair play for trying to sort it out, but from what i have seen so far the sail labelling is fairly small.  Has this changed?  As for the Swoosh well its a bit like one of those spot the difference pictures, i think it needs to be clearer (Well thats my opinion anyway)
