I blame the dagger board and rudder blade issue as key to my failure to effectively deal with the MPS.

This Sunday past, even our local sailing 'Men of Kent' Heroes took three try and spit back up the beach attempts to launch, ok it was a spot onshore and in a Southerly the wind lifts up and over, but it took three people to eventually get them clear of the break, simply because of the time it took to insert the plate in what was a windward launch off the beach.

Windsurfers solved this slot flusher issue years ago, it's time the dinghy business got to grips with it, RS100's are built at cobra, they have the technology, it's two strips of rubber tube that kiss each other and the plate passes between them.

But anyway I digress and the questioner probably doesn't mind and or sails where there are no underwater obstructions, like the D1 designer. 
The RS however is designed to cope with areas where there are shallows, so more suitable for folk who sail in areas like that. The obvious logic of which must apply to the traveller who never knows where he's going to end up sailing and does it frequently on water unfamiliar to him.

So in all probability a 'thinking' person as a lot of forum readers tend to be, might make their own mind up along those lines.

And there I was thinking that post was a carefully measured judgement and even labled "As I see it"

Where it so easily could have been

RS100 = Fast light modern attractive 21st century sailing product for all levels and rider weights

D1 = Ugly warmed over last century Finn rework suitable for lake sailing Krauts and Eyties only.

I have no "industry" deal or connections other than being a paying customer, who is able to arrange demo's in boats, just like any other customer / prospective customer.
 
I was mearly pointing out what appeared to factual comments from your post, where incorrect.
 
That's all.
 
I will be sailing this winter, like I have done all my life....although I probably wont be in a bikini.

Au contraire..

1) I am that total irritant to the brand fan warrior, I have no allegiances.
2) I am a full RRP no deals paying customer
3) Of light build and early intermediate skill level.


So that opinion is fact to me, what is fact to you is that derived from being a good sailor who's sailed it all year, clearly has some sort of 'insider' Industry deal or wouldn't have managed to turn up at a Nationals I've paid no end to be at and get a ride.

Jimbo, I suspect (but dont know) must have some similar allegiances or he wouldn't have been able to jump the queue either, so opinion wise....

I have the added bonus of impartiality and that opinion, like it or not, is fact to me.
And us buyers have to use the thing in all weathers, not sunny warm climes wearing our bikinis.

Irritating innit..?

Let's take the D-One "big" boy first....
I have race all year against a range of weight crew, at Valencia last week Agustine won the regatta, as he did in the windy Alassio event, and he is 70kgs. There were other guys in the top ten at 100kgs as well.
Personally I was racing upwind next to a lady who weighed in at 50kgs and we were exactly the same speed and I am 93kgs, obviously she was faster and deeper offwind.
The wings are perfect for "comfortable" hiking with equalization across a huge weight range as has been demonstrated this year.
 
"Blighted (for coastal launches)"....Nope, at Alassio it was an on shore breeze and a fleet of 25 launched perfectly.
 
It is deffo advisable to try both to see for yourself.

As I see it, it's not necessarily a try it see if you like it scenario, it depends on two things, how much cash you are willing to part with and where you sail, plus how heavy you are.

D1 = minted + inland reservoir /estuary + 'big'boy.
RS100 = comfortable + coastal + inland/estuary + wider rider weight range.
Neither I imagine would suit puddles.

The D1 imo is blighted (for coastal launches)by a daggerboard and fixed rudder but I'd imagine an otherwise easier boat to sail. It appears however to be a more 'quality' product with better 'gizmos' and is faster in casual hands. However it aint everybody's asthetic cup of tea.

That may be so, but is it not a cheap way into single handed assymetric sailing, which is what it seems would be best for this chap?

For half the money of a 100/D1 he could have a decent quality boat, get the hang of it and decide if he really wants the 2nd sail or not, and sell up and lose .. well .. almost nothing! (Depreciation of a brand new boat vs a 4 year old boat?)
