I guess one of these would float as it's a solid box. On that basis I wouldn't wear one as the last place I would want extra buoyancy is in the small of my back. It might find favour with cruiser sailors, but I'd reckon it's worse than useless for a dinghy sailor.

Chris
>>>I can see benefit of one of these over an Aquapac, as i have found a pin hole in mine. All be it only a tiny one but why risk it for a £200 phone. However another idea for you to consider is a variety of shapes and sizes, for example having one that mounts round a typical mast. That is for dinghies. I can see the uses for say a keel boat if you need to mount it on deck. Hope that helps<<< Excellent suggestion. There is in fact a smaller design on the drawing board that will hopefully come along reasonably soon. I like the idea about being mounted around the mast. If we explore that further - in your opinion, what would be the best way of attaching to the mast?

Looks like a good product to me.
Aquapacs are great... but no physical protection at all. I can this being used. PS.. Nice to know where radixon keeps his stuff ;-) Edited by Pierre - 27 Sep 10 at 12:49pm |

Interestingly, in Australia the Yachting community actually like the product and I'll quote:
>>> As for the Yachting fraternity they love them here for storing all the stuff that need to be protected from salt water spray… they don’t necessarily wear them but keep their gear inside and close at hand. <<< And to defend the product it would take quite a bit of effort to actually puncture whereas an Aquapac or similar could be punctured much easier. Anyhow, thanks for the feedback from you guys and as I mentioned earlier, nobody sounds as they they would find one useful but if anyone genuinely does see the benefits of having one then drop me a PM.

I think I have to agree- it's got little use for sailing- it is bulk exactly where bulk is least wanted whilst sailing- look at racing bouyancy aids, they're cut very high compared to (say) water skiing ones. Doubt kayakers would like it that much either. Other companies (not just Aquapac!) already supply a wide range of watertight pouches and containers- as the intended way of wearing it is pretty much useless for sailing, you're then trying to sell it versus the wide range of shapes and sizes already on the market. It just isn't the right product.

Erm shouldn't you have done your homework a little soooner?
![]() Others have said and I would concur that the Aquapac does the job nicely afloat. |

It is an Australian creation, hence the name. The US do have an even less glamorous name though.
So name aside - is there an area that I could target that it would work well in?

If I am doing an event I will put my valuables in my car and then use an aquapack for my car key. If I was on the rib, I'd use a decent lunchbox (lock lock ones) and can store it in there.
I do agree with the phrase "Bum bag" it is so 80's. If I were going to buy one I would want to be able to wrap it around something on the boat, rather than having to worry about whether it was going to stay attached to me if I fell in. Edit - and for those that haven't seen the price on the uk retailer - £26.99 Edited by radixon - 26 Sep 10 at 2:54pm |
