There were very much the equivalent of the rotomoulds of their day, and gathered a similar amount of disdain. Aesthetically they weren't great, but I never sailed one to know whether they were bad boats or not. In those days I wouldn't have wanted to be seen dead in something as uncool as that, but hopefully I've grown up a bit since then.

and designed by the late Peter Milne of Fireball fame..

Back in the days of yore when I started sailing (ok, the early nineties, but it seems like yore now...) virtually all of our club races were run from the race office in the clubhouse. Gradually the creeping spread of the weed during the summer months lead to a move to Committee Boat starts as the usable sailing area moved further away from the clubhouse, and now we don't even have the facility in the clubhouse anymore...
Anyhoo, the point is that back in those days our CB was one of the aforementioned Skipper 14's. Not the most stable of craft with no daggerboard in and an old seagull outboard on the back. Parcel tape over the board slot to stop water fountaning in...
It was yellow and white.

I seem to remember that the colour choice was blue and white or yellow and white, my friends went for the latter, but we did live in a psychodelic era. If you needed tape over the board slot it obvious that the picnic table option had not been purchased. This involved the removal of the board and a flat varnished board being placed on top of the case, a small flange underneath located in the top of the slot giving stability to the structure, so you could balance your sandwiches when moored, or in our case cans of tennants lager, where did those days go? whatever happened to Jackie, great days, perhaps that should be another topic?

A distant relative has just bought an Otter 2nd.hand with real money?! I could have commented but in a way i was proud of the old boy still getting out on the water, but not his taste in boats.

It may fail on the aesthetics but does it meet its design brief?

Going back to the Skipper, I was going to photograph it this morning, in the blokes garden(I could do it from the road) and post it here, but its gone along with his camper van, so he's out sailing and I'm in my office looking out on downtown Pudsey, with an evens chance of sailing on Sunday. I might, in my view, have a better boat, but that guy has a better life?
