Too late Simon, you'll never beat the speed I hit on Sunday afternoon!
Unfortunately I don't have a GPS so I have no idea how fast it was
(but the fish was THIS big) & I have no intention of going that fast
again anytime soon. It was main fully out, flat out on the back
toestraps and still getting the nose wet; the level of concentration was
absurd. The whole race was run in conditions similar to the squall from
Friday afternoon only this time it was against the tide as well! The look
on the faces of some of the yachts scrambling to get out of my way
will be scorched on my memory for some time to come .

I need to source a GPS device to play with on the 100.

Any recommendations on a fairly basic one ?

They're saying in that report, that there's 'nearly no difference' twixt the 10.2
& 8.4..

That wholey depends on wether the sails are powered, if there's enough
wind for the 8.4, then granted the 10.2 is so much parasitic drag..

But it's a question of the threshold... which if I were to guess is in my case at
least sub 8 knots. and up to sub 12 knots for most heavier folk..

Above that - true, no real difference with the 8.4 being possibly quicker the
windier it gets..

There's an old adage you should be aware of MB, as true today as the day I
first heard it.

If all the men in all the world were lined up and somehow they're penis held
on top of their heads..

They'd all be the same height..

Jimbo doesn't need a larger sail to make up for something he is lacking grumpf!!

No amount of extra canvass is going to help that grow big boy!!

No, 'fraid not, it's harbour tours all round.

Look in the medium assy to see results are not a whitewash by either Rs100 or D-1, harbour knowledge, wind appreciation/prediction and luck can be fairly significant in this event, but quality tends to do well by the end of the week!

Both boats look pretty good on the water, it's a good effort in terms of showcasing hiking assy single handers.

Quite right too.

Nick certainly knows his way around this stretch of water and today he and I had the best race.

We were so far ahead of everyone D-Ones and 100's,it was mental.

For the whole of the race we we crossing each others transoms and downwind was really close.

I think its fair to say that in the lighter stuff and with Nick at the helm there isn't much difference, although the other 100's got a spank as well, however as soon as a gust hits or the wind gets up stronger then I feel that I have the legs...the wings make a big difference.

Nick loose covered up the last leg to the finish I put a short tack in to clear his sh1t and that was enough for him to get 21 secs accross the line.

He was first and I was second, overall.

We could have had a proper battle, e.g. covering hard but we both seemed to enjoy seeing what these boats can get up to.

This is not a windward leeward thing, its all over the harbour where get the tide wrong and you lose big time, its always been this way at Fed Week.

Nick and I nearly caught up the tail ender Fast Asys at the first mark who started 5 mins ahead of us.

We spanked the 29ers which we were really please about.

All to play for...
