Not sure I would describe FED Week as a W/L Open sea event! Depending on the course and wind direction you may well get some nice long legs, but when I have done it previously you have done your fair share of white sail reaches as well. I'd agree with Hector, getting the tides right and knowing where the marks are will gain you much more!

And Nick knows his way around the Harbour - that's probably worth 30 pts (under two minutes in an hour long race).

Nope not me, did read somewhere someone had a sticky up bit at the trailing edge of the centreboard, I did trim mine there a bit when I was messing around with a broken plate. Whilst I'm on, well done Nick on that Fed result, did you and the others actually finish ahead of the D1's on the water? I find that difficult to believe, they must have sailed like turkeys, gone the wrong way if 8.4's beat them. Edited by G.R.F. |

Yup - spoken to Rob, board likely to have come up slightly is best case and most likely scenario.

This has probably been asked before, but I am reluctant to trawl through 140 pages at work! Downwind last week (18 knots wind, 20ish in gusts) I was getting a fair plume of water up through the centreboard slot. Nothing to spoil the grin, but have I unwittingly dinked/broken something.....or at that pace normal and just live with it?

Fed week - only one race per day - we had force 3-4 fill in as we started, 8 100s and 4 D-ones amongst med assy handicap: Amongst singlehanders I finished about 50seconds ahead of leading D-one on the water, then another D-one literally seconds later, then a 100 45 seconds after that. Race was an hour 45 mins. No surprises performance wise, very even offwind, D-One has slight edge upwind. I knew which way to go (so did first D-one). Sailing off 1005 I was wopped by 3 29ers (only 1 reasonable), so finished 4th out of 30ish. Leading D-ones off 971 were mid fleet. Bandits we are not.....at least today. In 100s, Simon Childs kept nibbling away at me upwind, but was still learning assy's downwind. Tim Weeden held me all way to windward mark (15 min beat) on 8.4, but got stuck under some boats downwind. Clive Eplett looked quick on 8.4 first sail...other HISC 10.2s off the money today.....interesting to see how the relative performances pan out... Cheers,

From the reports its looks like the conditions weren't great for the Hayling regatta D1 versus RS100 challenge. It says it was very light and only got one race in so cant read anything into results. Will be interesting to start seeing the Fed week results filter in???? Cheers, Keith. |
