... any class is a growing class if you join it!!!!

An RS200 with a trapeze - now THAT would need some strong wind to keep upright.

Think he means LASER 2000 - which isn't really a good recomendation. Nice for middle aged couples, but basically dullsville.

Could you supply more info Nick?

How much does Dad want to spend?

Do you want to race? if so At club level or at opens.

If you only want to sail at your club, ask your fellow members  "Would a V3000 or a L4000 etc be suitable at this club?" they may have an opinion.

If you want to do the opens what size of fleet would you prefer to sail in?...check out attendance figures at recent and old opens. Is it a growing fleet or a shrinking fleet?

What are your ambitions.....Good Club sailor or Olympics?

First I've heard of it. I'd have thought they'd be a bit tippy to trapeze. As for spacious, really?

You cant go wrong with an rs200! they have trapeze capability and will go very fast when you catch them in a good wind. also they are spacious so your dad will be able to move around like a butterfly in it!

Aren't we all? At the end of the day, we each sail the boat that we think is best for us. Hopefully, we only recommend it to others we think it will suit.

The V3000 is the new build of the 3000. The Laser 3000 is
the original.

"V"s are lighter and stiffer and come as standard with the
new design of sails, foils etc (all of which can be added
to a laser 3000 hull). The Vs are also a bit more delicate
and can't be gotten 2nd hand (not yet anyway).

Argh, it just so happens that I am already going sailing
elsewhere, for the entire weekend... The same thing
happend when I got offered a test sail on a boat before
:(
Well, thank you anyway guys who told me about the
Nationals at Grafham. I appreciate it.

So right now, it looks like my options are:
-V3000/L3000 (From what I gather, the same boats, except
the Vandercraft one is a newer model?)
-L4000

I'll talk things over with Dad and see what he thinks.
Has anyone got any other suggestions?

..... plus we've been known to have a social life after racing, instead of mum & dad putting us to bed

come along to grafham and ask for nick (or find 3604) I'll get you a demo in a L3000, V3000 (and maybe a L4000 too) if you like.

meanwhile, contrary to previous comments I was out single handed in force 5 under full sail last night (must have put on weight!).  Didn't win, did swim, but beat everything on the water >1000PY, except a phantom, and boy oh boy was it fun (beat our local L4000 too - by 4 1/2 minutes!).
