Was out on the B14 with the Mustos and Cherubs at Whitstable. had to resort to sailing "French style" as helm was having difficulty holding the main sheet- unusually for a skiff helm normally takes the main all the way round on the b14, as they've precious little else to do, but the French teams swap sheets upwind to the amusement of everyone else. Suprised to find out that it isn't that akward.
Cherubs seemed to fall over a lot for no apparent reason. There were quite a few occasions I'd be keeping an eye out for any close by, only to see one capsize without apparent provocation. |

Can you remember which one that was?!
We only tipped it in once and that was because the outboard mainsheet strop snapped whilst heading upwind! Went with a surprisingly loud bang, followed by a sedate and undramatic capsize to windward! Provided us a bit of a cool off period in the hot sun! The modern boats are very narrow and so incredibly tippy at low speed so rusty crews may have been caught out... if the wind had picked up there would have probably been swimming caused by rapid acceleration and being too slow to respond! I guess that is the beauty of it... you have the battle to conquer the boat as well as the boats you are sailing against! I had a great weekend though, was good to see so many 'skiffs' out on the water together enjoying the sun and what there was of the wind. |

Did the VIP pass allow you a ride (in the car)?

Southampton Water was quality today. Flat water with a building breeze this morning topping at a steady 3/4. Some tasty gusts coming down gave the Netley club fleet and Terra squad some great conditions.
I managed to get some time off my club duty and add some lard to a fellow Dart 18 sailors boat. Not an great racing course, but a long reaching leg out in the middle gave us some awesome speeds. His GPS recorded a peak at 20kts ![]() |

Jubilee Cup at Hunts this weekend. Was good to see so many boats on the water. With a bit of luck (and some good sailing of course) I think I got 4th overall. As this is like a mini club championshipand the conditions were definitely Phantom favourable (enough wnd to get them planing but not enough to get me planing) I am pretty pleased with the results. Wind was all over the place though some huge shifts (which is odd given that it was a southerly). |
