hi i am looking to buy a skiff of some sort at the end of the season but im not sure which one is right for me. my budget is about £1500 and i weigh about 80kg. i want a boat ahich is relativly fergiving and also very fast. any help? |

You don't specify trapeze, double or single hander so may I suggest a B14? They are relatively easy to actually sail but harder to master but are still pretty quick. If I can sail one then I'm sure most people with a little experience can.
I'm sure there are a few options available to you, but I'm not sure what for that budget though. How fast do you want it to be? Maybe a Laser 4000, or a RS800, although I don't honestly know how much they cost. Just looking about it seems you can get a nice Laser 4000 for £1600 ish, I'm not sure if they quite count as a skiff though! Edited by tgruitt |

Buy an rs 600 loads for sale within your budget good boat to get started on if you fancy a musto skiff later on

i was thinking more about double handers as i have spent the last 2 years in a contender and i want to move onto something with a spinaker and when i said very fast i mean something which wil almost aways be plaining

Yeah it's a skiff! Great boat in my opinion. We've had a right laugh in ours this year. Built like the proverbial out house so not the lightest boat in the park but very durable. At the moment there are some nice looking boats for sale for not a lot of money. Edited by ellistine |

£1500 is going to buy you: An Old Chrub An Old 14 A B14 (Rondar version) A Boss, ISO A L5000, 4000 In the true sense of the word very few if any of the above are "Skiffs" Which may i add is a word i hate as it seems to be a marketing tool to sell faster boats! The only true skiffs are as i see it are light weight over canvassed rocket ships. A la Musto Skiff 12ft skiff 18ft skiff
The closest thing in your budget thats going to be Skiff-ish is the B14. They are good cheap fun and relatively easy to sail. They are a super friendly class and second hand parts (sails etc.) seem to be ultra available, meaning running one them isn't to costly either. |

Tim i agree with dave, we find it hard enought to find time to sail and have only just really started to get it going well, i would look at getting a boat to hone your skill in rather than getting wet all the time and learning nothing, if you do need to have a skiff that planes all the time then i suggest you get your self an older blaze and learn to sail a fast singlehanded boat with racks that is very responsive, then move on to a crew and kites,
