I may have missed this, but there is a new video on RS facebook site of a
100 in 25 knots at Garda. 8.4 sail.

My mate's dad collected his bloodaxe cherub hull from Andy on the roof of a big old mercedes estate if I remember rightly. Looks the complete polar opposite of the A-class on the polo.

Is that A Class "Delta Lady"? If it is (and it sure looks like it), it won every light air race at my club for years (mid/late eighties?).  Fantastic boat, inspired me to be a naval architect!

Sorry for the slight off topic detour folks...

Back in the days before the bureacracy and endless regulation folks roofracked just about anything three people could lift... I'm sure Entrprises and the like travelled like that, but ultimately trailers are less work.
As long as you could still open the doors you knew the roof wasn't bending too much: beyond that it was a question of driving more slowly round corners and being wary of crosswinds.

I roofyrack everywhere ( 'cos I'm also on the IOW ), moths at 2.25m wide, Cherubs, ICs, on a range of cars - MiniMetro, Escort, Astra, Pug405.
Someone collected an A-class cat from me - roof racking on a Polo!

I have a 51 reg Civic (with sun roof) that has a limit of 20kg on the roof.  Hope yours was higher than that!

Physical limit on the roof weight on my insignia is 100kg so an RS100 would be OK weight wise for the car, apparently just not for the roof bars themselves.

I roofed a IC from Norwich to Gloucestershire on the roof of my old company Honda civic!!!!  I beefed the roof rack up with some timber, it was fine apart from i dented the roof rails!!  In hindsight it was probably a stupid thing to do, as there was a rather large overhang, and old rules canoe's are not exactly light!! so it was probably over the weight limit for the car.  I wouldn't do it again!

It would be no problem on the roof.  I drove the 600 miles across Europe (in a Mondeo) with the NS14 on the roof for exactly the same reason - the ferry was cheaper.  Coincidentally the NS is also 4300mm by 1830mm with very similar hull weight, although the mast is longer than a RS100 one.  I found I did need a block of wood to beef up the forward roof bar though, to stop it bowing too much.

Question, has anyone car-topped their 100 yet? if so any
advice, pitfalls etc?

Thanks

Current development specification:
Length: 4300mm
Beam: 1830mmSurely a beam of 1.8mtr is too wide for a car room rack. I'd
rather tow as it saves the weight on the top of the car and the hassle of
getting people to assit putting it on the roof.

And the trailer allegedly tows quite happily at 90... (for legal reasons- km/h
on private roads and not endorsed by RS Sailing, their trailer suppliers or
anybody else including myself or any insurance companies )

All valid, and thanks, my question arises from the fact that Isle of Wight ferry companies want to charge me caravan rates for a dinghy/trailer, think I'll give the roof rack a go, with a bit of an extension, natch.
