Cheers Dave !

That is sort of how Ive done it , but didnt see the eye (I was sailing at the
time) so tied to the front toe-strap anchoring plate. For some reason dont
appear to have much tension in the halyard so going to have a look tonight
to see why.

From the above think I might have found reason for my haliyard-around-
the-stay problem - my take-up shockcord came undone on first trip out
and I simply tied it off onto the front toestrap plate. Sounds like it needs
more travel and tension.

Anyone know the correct arrangement (cant find any good pics anywhere) ?

One guy did but most dont bother. I just run it round a block a the back of the cockpit, up to a block on the bow and then tie to the inboard end of the sprit. So it takes up as the kite comes down.

In my experience if the rig is rigged by Selden they tend to be generious with the length of halyards and if not shortened to the correct length for the class then this can be a problem.

You will all soon no exactly the correct length through experimentation.

Don't cut it too short or you will "bum cheek" the kite ...

kite halliard is the same for both - remember the hoist block is raised the same ammount as the mast stump. (Same kite after all!!)

Generally speaking if the kite halliard is the right length - then tweak the shockcord to take up the slack properly when down. This should be tight enough to stop it going around the spreader. I suspect the kite halliard has a few inches spare as supplied and the shockcord might not be tight enough as supplied. Of course a tapered halliard does help as Rick suggests, but so far we have not used one and not felt the need.
