The RS100 Owners Thread

anyone thought of setting up a thread with RS100 sail numbers V's Forum names?

Placed my order on the first day of advance reservations - 6th july
if I recall correctly - seems a long time ago now !

But WELL worth the wait - boat is a cracker !

Hi All,

Well had my first sail today (got back too late yesterday and honking and
pissing it down anyway).

Thanks to Charlie and all the guys at RS for such great customer attention
on the handover - much appreciated. They even insisted on a final polish
!

Initial assembly is pretty straightforward but there are some bits which
cause confusion the first time around (the shrouds have a top and bottom
- not clearly marked so trial and error). Kicker takes a bit of fiddling but
is straightforward once you get it sorted.

Some very initial feeback:

* 'Wow' was the general consensus in the dinghy park. Everyone was
blown away with the quality of finish and the general comment was that
this is the best sorted boat anyone has seen ! Well done RS.

* Initial launching - the boat is pretty tippy at rest so you need someone
to take the trolley whilst you get everything sorted.

* The centreboard control lines work a treat and the rudder is very easily
dropped for a quick getaway.

* Initial feeling is the boat is quite tender but but overly difficult.

* The 10.2 is a brute ! I'm nearly 14 stone and in 15 knots of breeze I was
looking for every de-power I could find. Outhaul is quite effective for this
and wish I had found it sooner. Seriously considering getting the smaller
sail as well. For open sea sailing probably going to be a must.

* Oh my God -I need to get fitter. Hiking is brutal compared to a trapeze
boat !!!!!

* She stonks upwind but has to be sailed pretty flat - difficult when you
are on your ear overpowered. Stayed with a reasonably sailed 600 on a
short tacking beat.

* Had planned to ignore the previous advice and do the kite hoist
standing with tiller between legs - massive mistake !!!! you do need to
stay on the side wing but I found could use two hands by sitting on
extension. Need to work on this.

* Kite is very good. Quite sensitive but you can find the hot angle pretty
easily and boat planes very early.

* Gybing is a sinch provided you have good speed - everything so well
arranged.

* Took quite a lot of swims ! Mainsheet cleat seems to be slightly wrong
angle for me (too high). Looking into adjustments.

* Overall impression is that the boat has a huge amount of potential, is
incredibly well sorted, but I need to improve both my fitness and boat
handling to get the most from it - it offers a challenge but one which is
attainable.
