I am after a tiller extension joint that wont cause the extension to spring up into the air when I drop it, any ideas? It needs to be supple and strong, is that too much to ask? It is supporting a 1.1m Rooster carbon 25mm extension which is quite light so hence if the joint is too stiff when I drop the extension it flies into the air and causes me issues trying to catch it!! I am currently using a twist off sea-sure one which isnt supple enough. Thanks |

SeaSure do a more flexible joint. Which will work with your twist off
joint so no changes to your tiller. The part code is ss23-67a. Of course it is sold at LDC. |

They soften up pretty quickly, you just have to give it time. They all start like that.

+1 wrap some tape round the handle end to accelerate this process and also weigh it down a bit, you can always un-wrap later on |

leave the extension on the tiller and tape it to the tiller pole thing so its stored bent through 180degrees. Should sort it out after a week or two. Then you just reverse it so the permenant bend is towards to front of the boat and bobs your uncle

Also have a 1.1m extension on a seasure quick release joint I thought the whole point of a carbon extension and a stiff joint was that the extension "floats" in the air when you drop it, doesn't hit the deck and falls easily to hand for retrieval. Useful when dropped by accident, but also if you have to let go (eg to launch or drop a kite). If you don't want the lightness ... buy a metal extension? I'm sure someone will do you a swap! |

Must say its always struck me as bizarre that the one part of the boat that contributes to both righting moment and trim is seen as a good candidate for spending loads and loads of money to save a tiny bit of weight...

carbon extensions tend to hurt less when your helm hits you in the face with it.

I always felt that the heavier the stick it hurt my wrist....on the 700 anyways. although the thinner ones snapped really easily when I forgot to let go when I tripped up. |
