The point is that they are different cars and will go at different speeds - yes, under some (exceptional) conditions (e.g., oily track or even just very wet) the result could be that the 1.6 wins the race - that dosen't matter to the argument here. If the boats with different sails have different performances, then they should have their own PYs for club racing. This needn't have any effect on open events. I really think we can all get what we want here |

The first of two huge deliveries of new RS boats was shipped to Minorca Sailing’s base last week – meaning they will start the season with their greatest number of new RS’s ever, including RS200s, 400s, Fevas, Vareos and Q’BAs adding to the other RS classes already out there. You will even be able to sail the brand new RS100 at Minorca Sailing when two of them arrive May. Treat yourself - it’s fab – check out www.minorcasailing.co.uk to find out more.

How about we wash the track down in oil as well and we'll see how he gets on with 300BHP. |

On the 2-rig front - for sure, think of them as 2 different classes - that is the long-term vision: and of course, Keith is right - the majority of sailors are buying one sail - and in many of the instances of a buyer having both it is often for another member of the family. In the case of our esteemed Communications rep James, he wants to maximise enjoyment of the boat and having the 8.4 will mean he can sail when others might be ashore. and when time is precious, that is good thinking.

To make it more realistic, you both get the same amount of fuel - but only enough for the low power one to get round the track. Because in sailing you can only use 'so much' power, all the extra is spilled. |

OK, well I'll race you round the Top Gear track then. You can have a 1.6 litre Ford Focus and I'll have the 2.5 litre with 300 bhp, and we'll see who wins

I actually think alot of people may be opting for 1 rig anyway. I know I am. |

I guess that means that while the 2 trial PY's are close, they are just that - a trial. Once returns start coming in, they may get further apart, or they may get even closer if the small sail is better upwind in a breeze. I should think we shall see people at club level doing what they do in the Laser - bunging the small rig on when the breeze kicks in. Really looking forward to seeing how this year pans out for the class, despite having no real wish to own one myself. Watching the forum baby grow up, I suppose! |

Neal, Its my understanding that it has essentially been released as 2 boats with 2 different PY's. That what RS are telling us. The RS100 (8.4) and (10.2). To repeat myself I think Nick's email summarises their plans for the class perfectly. Cheers, Keith. |
