That's one way of showing an interest in a language. After all, any language is only a means to an end... Something lots of teachers don't realise, especially for GCSE!

Honestly? I have no idea... I don't sail, really. I'm only here to wind up Contender443!

From my experience, French people are less aware of dinghy sailing. It probably has to do with geography; many more people live inland. However, in coastal areas, there are (partly) government-funded schemes to encourage sailing for all ages.

Classes are different as well. My sis is a member of a club where club boats are mostly cats (Hobies, really, and a couple of Darts). There are also a few monohulls, but mostly French makes (fair enough...). This club employs a permanent instructor/manager, plus 2 part-timers in the summer. They organise lots of activities during the holidays, for children and adults alike.

Unfortunately, that's all I can tell since I have no real experience of other clubs.

If you can speak French, have a look on the Fédération Française de Voile website: http://www.ffvoile.org/FfvHtml/accueil.asp

In the category Type de bateau, choose Dériveur (dinghy). You can get links to class associations and various local clubs.

Hope it helped

It was quite a nice surprise, really. Imagine if I'd said "Look at the French in that game, I can't believe how c**p it is..."

I do "letters and stuff". For a long time, I worked in a multimedia company, translating and testing computer games. Got my hands on the first X-Box, the first GameCube, you name it, all the new consoles, long before they hit the British market.

I've seen so many games I can't remember half of them. At Xmas 2003, we were given a copy of a kiddies' game (my forte - I'm also a teacher). I was playing along and had a look at the French version, just for a laugh. First of all, I was surprised to see that the translation was smooth and consistent. Then I got to the credits and I saw my name.

I'd done the job myself and didn't remember!!
