F.I.F. you need to explain that getting too close to other boats when you duck them only serves to muck up the air flow over the sails and that he would go faster and gain more from being about half a boatlength to leward when you duck, smoothes things out. sorry i know its the wrong bit of the forum for this but its apt. btw. nice name mate! |

yeah You can get lift of the back of peoples sails aparently as the wind flow is cureved but dont go too near.

had one guy in 29er training who did it like your helm FIF. his aim was
to hit people with the bowsprit. it worked at least! hit the guy in his
arse! very funny to watch, but don´t wan´t it to happen to myself!

you could also try to doo this: while you´re sailing downwind with your
gennacker up sail near some one who´s clos hauled and the crew is
on the wire, try to push him off with your bowsprit. we have tried this
and it was so funny!
