Finally manage to do a race yesterday. Things did not go quite to plan though. Was paired up with a fellow prospective DI in the club Vision but the main halyard decided it didn't want to play. So we got towed in.

I wouldn't have minded but I lent my boat to someone for the morning so I ended up in a club Laser. Was a bit of a wreck of the boat but I finished roughly where I felt I should have done (much to the chagrin of my usual fleet mates who were in their normal boats). Just goes to show even in a Laser where nothing really works (aside from the kicker) you can still turn in a good result.

The Laser Regional coaching launched at 10:30 (as planned) and we were on the water until 2pm which allowed people to get an early get away at the end of the day.

It is important to train in 25 knots of wind as we race in it!

I've got some good pictures from the weekend which I will write a report as soon as I have a free minute.

Saturday down at WPNSA for the East workshop for the Activate your Laser initiative, the Olympic venue is looking good and is very impressive. Didn't manage to sail on the Saturday as I was saving my knee for Sunday..

Sunday was out doing some instructor pre-assessment at Grafham. Talk about being a tad windy!

Not many club racers out I noticed. My first time actually sailing at Grafham for many years, I had forgotten how nice it can be out on a big piece of water.

The squad 29ers and Laser coaching people even ventured out (once the wind had died a bit).

well other than a dodgy water call on a leward mark in the pursuit today where I let one through just t see the beautiful way it dissapeared when well sailed.

there is a certain level of satisfaction getting an 800 to tack off upsind because you can out point them and they are not going to clear your bow....

2 races in the Lightning today - very fickle winds, but useful for getting to know a stiff mylar sail in very light winds - a different game to a 30 year old soft dacron one! Seems quicker, though, when the odd little puff came through.
