Great event. Once the Pompey Perisher and Sovereign races disappeared, this was the last one of its type. Great water and cannot predict who will win prior to the event as there are many complexities. One not to miss. Launch from the marina as all facilities there. Bring a waterproof bag for the chartlet as it is just paper.

A real man's race if breezy and never booring. Done it many times and its always one of my foavourites.

Check the forecast first

This was one of the first open events i did with my Laser, You launch in a marina and sail out into the chanel, what you have to watch is you go from no wind to a F3/4/5 once your out of the confines of the marina walls.

They also take a two swims and your in rule (or they did anyway) but i can't find that in the SI, it was snowing that year though.

Yes as far as I remember they give out course charts.  As least I think they do but then I've never had to use one.

Those courses look complex. Do they provide laminated charts on entry?

Merlinboy look here http://www.hooness.org.uk/ It has all the information other than a chart for the river and marks. If you look at the course sheet you will appriciate my question!

Russ

Go to google maps and paste this in to the search 51.410242,0.559402.
it should come up with a normal red pointer and also a green arrow, the
green arrow is what you'll be launching through. However just a few
hundred metres to the left you see a dinghy club which is wilsonian.......
where would you rather launch? and land in a big breeze.

49ers seem to manage it fine from Hoo Ness so there shouldn't really be
any issue.

Being on the river, you certainly won't be doing (or at least shouldn't) the
normal round in circles type course. It's down the river using the channel
markers as rounding bouys and then back. At high tide it's a pretty big
stretch to play with, though sadly the Hoo Freezer never takes you down
river enough to the REALLY GOOD bit of water!
You get the fun of odd tidal flows, dodging freight tankers and if you hit
a mark, it WILL be your boat that comes worse off. All in all, it's just
different to the usual shazaam that's put on by other clubs.
(not that I don't enjoy the usual shazaam)

If the breeze is good, the medway marathon is also an absolute must for
everyone to remember!!
