Hi everybody, I'm only getting about 600 miles from my 8'' trailer tyres. I dont go fast round corners or underinflate or over inflate them so it must be alignment I think. Anybody know the best way to cure this fault in a light Streaker trailer ? The suspension bolts straight on to the main beam. thanks djdhi

Hi,the wear is mainly in the middle. Some tyres have a slight feather edge to the outside tread. I've lifted the wheels and spun the tyres by hand. The wheels seem to turn quite easily. I'm at a complete loss. Anybody know how to accurately check the alignment of a small trailer ? djdhi

I'd have thought that any mis-alignment which could cause a tyre to wear out in 600 miles would be blindingly obvious just looking at it by eye.
Are you totally sure there's not a part of the mudguard which is rubbing on the tyre when under way? |

I don't know what shocks you've got but those rubber torsion ones can bounce the wheels and cause excessive wear. Particularly if loads/pressure aren't quite right. .........only a guess though. |

how much pressure are you putting in the tryes as if they are wearing in the middle it sounds like you are over inflating them that in turn in causing more wear over a smaller area.

Tyre pressures are about 25 psi. I've tried extremely low presures about 15 but one tyre completely deflated once losing air between tyre and rim, so I don't think thats the way to go. djdhi |

Don't you need about 50psi in trailer tyres?
Still, this doesn't account for them wearing out in 600 miles. |

I run the trailer tyres for my 3000 at 30psi and they still show signs of wear only in the middle! Very little wear, however, and to judge by the present rate I should get '000's of miles out of them. Re. your feathering around the outside edges, when I've driven cars around circuits it's always been the outside edges that have feathered on the treaded tyres. That suggests to me that you may have excessive toe-in (or else be cornering damned fast!) |
