Looks great, wish I was there! Is Luca going to have some charter boats
available at some point later on?

No amount of design can get away from the physics, so the D-one in
optimum conditions has to be faster upwind than the RS boat. People
should sail both, make their choice and pay their money. Handicapping
puts all boats on an even basis in theory at club level, so then it just
comes down to which boat you like sailing. As for open one design, then
the boats only sail their own kind, so it is only important that they are
good to sail.

Would love to sail both sails on a full production boat when one becomes
available. I would even charter one for a few weeks so I could sail at my
club in our lively conditions.

Simon,

There will be plenty of opportunities to race at the European events next year and for sure we will have charter boats available - charter fee refunded to anyone placing an order within 14 days of the event.

I agree with your thoughts on handicaps putting everyone on the same basis so my choice is a Finn  1066!!!!  I am too old and fat for a foiling moth   The physics that tell us of the speed of the D-One upwind also say that it is a rocket offwind, just need to get the angles right

I think you got the buzz that the D-One seems to give everyone who sails it; a light boat with a sensible sail area and appropriate righting moment

More than happy to accommodate further testing of the D-One with both sail options and Luca has agreed to send one of the 10.3 M2 semi battened sails to us after this weekend's event.

I will call you in a few days to discuss possibilities of using a D-One for some club racing at wonderful Lymington. Chance is that there will be at least one other D-One racing there very soon

The media for this boat launch is excellent - great videos, great pics and an
excellent website. A new benchmark for boat launches, would be nice to see
some of this wear off onto the rs100 launch.

Torbole - the first D-One international regatta.

30 knots this morning easing to a gusty 20-25 knots.  Brit, Adrian Brunton, was first on the water for the training session that was organised for today.  His notes are below:

Arrived at club at 9am.

German 420 squad just launching, wind was 25 to 30 knots plus !! Most
of them went over and one blew out their kite.

Waited 2 hours for the wind to reduce

Wind still around 30 Knots, time for lunch

big bowl of pasta and a strong coffee

2 pm wind down to 15 to 20 knots, time to go sailing.

First to launch, with others following me out, kite up and high speed
planing 4km down the lake with a huge grin on my face !!! 25 knots
this far down the lake. Long sail back, but faster and more
comfortable than the Finn.

Back upwind, let's do that again !! Big gusts coming through, going
nearly straight downwind with the apparent wind. Unbelievably quick !!!!

Back up wind, can't wait to do it again and again and again.

4 pm wind is dropping off, back in for a warm shower.

Back to the Hotel and ready to party !!!!!

More tomorrow!

Update from Adrian after the first ever days D-One fleet racing.

Down the club at 9.00am, sun is out, a lot warmer today. Wind is still
from the north about 15 knots.

First out again at midday ready for a 1.00pm start. Average wind is
down to 12 knots but some big gusts coming through.
Wrong end of the start line (typical) but good speed. Andy Rice starts
on port at the pin and clears the fleet. Fleet splits and half go hard
left and half go hard right. I sail on my own playing the shifts up
the middle. Good safe tackticks. Those on the right get closed out and
the first 3 on the left beat me to the windward mark. Kites up and
find the gusts and get in them. My VMG seems better than those around
me. Up into 3rd. Find some good gusts down the middle. On the heels of
1st and 2nd.  boat in front gybes and capsizes. Big gust hits me, go
vey low, kite down, gybe round the mark first. Cover up the beat.
Course shortened at the top mark, and with a lot of luck I win the
first ever D-One race

Between races the wind turns round to the south and is a nice and
steady 12 knots.

One lap race this time. Wrong end of the line again, hiking hard to
the cliffs. Struggling for boat speed. Tack out to middle to avoid bad
air, round the top mark 7th. Tube and set, looking for gusts bit hard
to spot into the sun. Feel the pressure and soak it as low as I can.
Good gust, gybe back and into 5th. As we get closer to the line the
wind increase and 2 boats capsize on the gybe. Gybe safe and power it
to the line and pleased with a 3rd.

Back on shore and the pasta and beer are waiting for me.

Goods days racing, try not to drink too much grappa tonight, but who
can tell !!!!!!
