Its a nightmare choosing - does anyone know if the Earls Court Boat Show has got a few more dinghy exhibitors - what I really need to do is compare them in one place...

if your not in a major rush i'd wait for the Ally -Pally Dinghy show, ok so it's te beginning of march next year but there is no better place to compare boats as pretty much every boat still activley sailed is represented. You could just by a mega cheap and cheerful boat like a gp14 for a couple of hundered quid to see you through till then, so you can still sail and learn and improve.

Go to The Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace. Early March. Much better, Established show, and you can meet the class associations.

Personnally, I'd avoid the Bahia. It looks like a pretty standard boat at premium Laser prices. I have previously sailed, motored, paddled (in no wind) and camped on a Wayfarer when cruising around th Norfolk broads and I'm sure you can pick these up cheaper than the Bahia. I don't think the Wayfarers are particularly different from the Wanderer, although I've never sailed one of those. They also have a bag launch symetical spinaker, which is much more fun (and skillful) to fly! |

I'd agree with TT on this one. Go and try a Wanderer. They are very good boats and ideal for your purposes. We have one in our hire fleet at Weir Wood. It gets used a lot, and despite appalling abuse, goes great, is nice to sail, and is embarrassingly quick up wind.
Remember, everything looks lovely and shiny at the shows. You won't have any idea at all until you've seen one on the water, chatted to people who actually sail them, and had a go yourself. Hartley Laminates are very helpful people, sailors themselves, and their powder monkey frequents these boards. Oh and you'd be able to see the Wayfarer and several other boat models at the same time Edited by Pierre |

Been speaking to Tim N on here, who has been really helpful - also just joined the WCOA forum and they are really helpful too - especially in explaining the diffrerences in the versions. Thanks to all for the generous help given in my quest. |

I believe that there is a new Wanderer Magazine out this week so if you've recently become a member of the class association then you should receive it (if not then they're a friendly bunch so will probably send you one if you ask nicely!) In that is a few pages of 'un-biassed' info about the new Hartley Wanderer with some nice pics by all accounts.
