We've no idea where we're going to go just yet - so much to cost up!

We want somewhere with good racing, hopefully some projections and
that's also a good holiday venue. Planning on bringing a bit of an
entourage to keep all the non-sailing girlfriends sweet.

Staying on the boat - did this at Burnham Week and it was excellent but
only because a) the weather was amazing and b) we had a mothership
next door with all the gear on and we lobbed sleeping bags and cushions
in it first thing next morning. If anybody here hasn't slept in one the
bunks are MASSIVE - much bigger than on the 35 footer we had next
door. Wouldn't do it if we didn't have that exact combination of
circumstances though.

You make a really good point about class choice Doug. I've been meaning
to ask what you thought about cowes because you did sportsboat didn't
you? I notice that Pink Gin won one of the IRC classes at Falmouth Week
even though there was also a sportsboat class. I've never raced under SBR
but we're doing pretty well in IRC at the moment and our failures are
more down to our ability rather than the rule in question. Especially as
the Proj isn't an out and out sportsboat.

Stay on the boat !    brave boy !  What if its windy or raining and cold ... would that not be miserable ? my boat is generally wet below after sailing , also seems to take a long time to dry out . I did get a couple of crystal type dehumidifiers from Aldi recently and they seem to work v well , only 4-99 each I think .
Thanks for doing homework on ferry though ,

Doug .

just found this  http://www.cheap4ferries.com/ferry_search_results.aspx

for 5 people car and trailer, works out to be £138 each, return.

not bad, reckon a budget of a grand is the usual for a weeks sailing holiday. so it still leaves £862, entry fee (guessing about £50 each)  then you can stay on the boat for free, sounds like a bargain!

just need to find a grand though!  Anyone wishing to sponsor me and my mates to get drunk and possibly sail  send me a PM!

It would be nice to see another 762 at Blyth , craning will be free .I'm at an ECSW meet this sat , going up fri eve so we can sample Edinburgh delights .

we are looking at Cork week or back to Cowes , I'm informed that Cork can be rather expensive , even a lot more than Cowes ! One of our members had to pay £100 just to park his truck for the week  in 2006 !
I think it is a must do at some stage though ...  do we do sportsboats or IRC 4 ?

we will be fitting a flipper for backstay soon , new main will have some proper roach, I know this will effect my IRC number , however our local rating system don't include HW measurement , so as this is where we do most of our sailing ...

Doug .

We're thinking of trailing somewhere next year and will have to drop the rig for that so maybe that is the time for fitting one.

How do you fit it to the crane without drilling?

the sb3 batten backstay flipper was drilled, had 3 off centred srews fixing it to the crane if i remember correctly.  never broke, and we gave it some serious abuse, some teams didnt even bother removing it for transport!

Doug, we were seriously thinking of coming down for ecsw anyway. It was on the Forth this year and I'm sure one or two boats from here will be travelling (or sailing). Can't speak for Pink Gin, though. It may be a bit early for them.

Nigel, I wish I'd known about your Tacktick a few months ago! Eventually I bought an unused one from Ebay; we've only had working speed for a few weeks now.

Re the backstay flipper - I'm going to fit one at the end of this season. I fitted one to my last boat and it is far too fiddly a job to go up the mast, so don't do it! I agree with Nigel, I did drill the batten and as a consequence it broke.

I have a Tack Tick speed master (speed & depth) circa 2001 for sale, just checked out fine by Tack Tick. complete with mast cradle (not the bracket), new (large size) depth transducer, log transducer + spare and wiring.

I know that you Projectionists will have had this fitted originally so E mail nigel@rigmagic.co.uk if you are interested.

Ps. Backstay batten awkward to fit due to Z spar backstay attachment. Try not to drill batten. Use 4mm stripped Spectra for backstay. Use small block on outboard end of batten.

been thinking about one all year, reckon it will take getting the rig down to fit.  or someone very light, very strong and very brave to mess around up there with no backstay on!
