Woa..

Think of the effect it's going to have on the Musto Fleet.

If it's nearly as fast as an RS700 which has a faster handicap than the MPS,
so the D1 and MPS must be about the same speed then?

I'd heard it was the other way round and that it was just that the MPS had
better sailors whenever the twain met.

The only way to really judge would be a round robin I guess, do they do
those much these days.?

I think the 700 is probably faster for the average sailor, but if you can extract the extra bit from the musto it would be faster...

I cant see any threat for the Musto especially at £8.5k for the mps or a D1
for £10k. Think I will take the musto thanks, not to mention the bigger
fleets and made in the UK.

this is a dodgy subject.

Going by my personal experience, when I was in the 700 and we did a Bloody Mary style course at QM for a 2 hour pursuit around the resovoir, there were occasions when it was possible to win the event on handicap with one capsize if you were lucky, usually one capsize meant the difference between 1st or 3rd.

I believe it's been a while since a skiff won that event although it has been done

IMHO when the wind gets right up I would suggest that it is easier to go faster in the skiff upwind, however 700 was equal if not slightly faster downwind, so its a tough call that one. The skiff being smaller sail area than the 700.

Lets talk about this weekends racing, me in the D-One (just learning the ropes) and Musto Skiff sailor (long in the tooth, excellent sailor)

The Skiff ate me up and spat me out, having started on the same start.

I have a lot of work to do there I can tell you.

The D-One sail area is pretty much the same overall as the Musto, but without a trap (obviously) so its going to be slower.

As for the Vid, well its a different thing altogether sailing at full wack, the length of Garda etc than it is racing around a course, so that's a tuffy too.

The speed thing will work itself out over the next few months I would suggest.

950 suggests I am faster than a 400, and on Sunday, I didn't beat all the 400's off scratch, so don't think its a bandit at all.

Tim

I was just teasing ... D1 I would guess would be similar to a 400

The video does hide a bit of angle as well. There is certainly an opening angle on the first
shot, meaning that the D-one is off the wind more. That said it is still very quick for its
length and I am surprised at the comparative speed. I agree with Tim and suspect that
950 is a bit rich round our triangles.

The 700 is apparently easier to start on than the skiff and certainly easier on the sea. The
Musto has had huge promotion in recent years, but is neither better or faster overall than
a 700 as the PY's show. As always its the class with the most promotion that edges ahead
while the promotion is still going. Without the huge effort that has been thrown at the
skiff in recent years by Ovi's and Devoti it would probably have died. I also suspect that
like the 300, the 700 will have a resurgence.

Well there were 34 boats at the 700 Nats and one of the early built boats won it, 726.

That's still pretty good and in average comparison to the Musto turnout although this year was 50 boats.
