No no no, everyone here loves enthusiasm...

Even if you were a D1 salesman, I'm sure you'd be welcome with open
arms.

But what no-one likes is apparent deception

And that

"I cancelled my deposit post"

Sorry it just sends all the wrong messages..

Why did you cancel?

What do you know that we don't, lots of us here are just genuine punters
with deposits in place, myself included.

Exactly what did that wonderboat manage to do to get you into a time
machine to back date your order to the 21st when you tried it only this
weekend just gone?

As an observer in this debate I would suggest that maybe Tims height and weight may have had some influence on his choice.

It would be interesting to see a comparison chart of D1 v RS 100 with length, watrerline length, max beam, main size and kite size - and maybe even target weight range. Once RS have deciced on the sails maybe.

They both sound great fun boats to sail - and maybe as a result of them coming into the market I may soon be able to afford a second hand Vareo!

Hi Tim

congrats on your decision - I hope it is good for you.

was the size of the cockpit / space under the boom an issue for you at all?  I ask becasue the perception is that the D1 is for the bigger, heavier guys such as yourself.

was your decision also partly because you didn't want to wait until next year for the 100, when you could get a D1 almost immediately?

if you were fully hiked in a force 2 you must be pretty confident in the ability to depower the rig?

are you planning to car top the boat rather than trailing it?

anyway enjoy...

I dont understand what you mean...

I tried it on Sunday 20th Sept and bought one there....

what's the problem?

I am like you...an ordinary guy who has made a decision based on my thoughts having seen what I have seen.

I am not a D1 Salesman I am just enthusiastic about it, I mistakenly thought that you may like to know about my findings....

I have been doing a lot of research and not found too much to answer my questions I had, so I thought I would do something about it.

Although I can see that you all have taken it the wrong way.

I do not work for anyone....bloody heck how can I prove that?

Tim

I do believe it's Y&Y forum policy to declare any 'industry' connections at the bottom of forum posts...

Isn't that right Rick...

Thanks for that.

Yes the boom did come down low, however when I tacked and released a bit of mainsheet the bend came out of the mast a tad, and hey presto...there was a gap.

Depowering the rig looked great with the kicker and downhaul applied the square top bladed out the main like crazy....I believe that would be enough to depower the rig.

And yes I could not wait, however despite what you all think I will not be drawn into a dispute on a production and prototype boat, that is not why I said anything.

Sorry if you dont believe me but that really is the truth.

Tim

Tim, Good on you for letting us know about your new purchase. You sound very excited and quite right too. I think for your height and weight it sounds like you have the perfect boat. I hope you have lots of fun in the boat. Ignore all these weird people trying to read more into your purchase. At the end of the day the 100 deposit is refundable and I suspect there are several folk put down the 300 quid to get their build slot while possibly still considering the D1. I too am very excited about the 100 and cant wait to get mine.

Tim,

Thanks for the feedback on the D1.  Do you have to do anything (uncleat, pull on ropes etc) when tacking with the traveller?  If so, does this take some learning a) to do well and b) to do at all?  One of the things that appeals about the 100 is that it strikes me as basically a Laser with a kite (in terms of how to sail it).  If the D1 really is a Finn with a kite I would be worried that it might all be a bit too physical and technical for me.  Obviously you didn't find this to be the case - is that becasue you are fit and experienced or because the D1 is actually quite straightforward?

I think we are all curious because to have actually cancelled your 100 order must mean that you found the D1 noticably better in some way?

PS I set up a website for my NS14 despite having no commercial interest - so I fully understand that it can all be for the love of it!

Hi Peaky,

It's a bit early for me to say really...going back to my ealier post on boom height, I did briefly try a few tacks with the mainsheet cleated but it was a bit too low.

Having said that, there maybe a technique to it, there are others who have sailed it longer than me.

When I sailed the Tasar I definately tacked with the mainsheet tension on and just eased the traveller, I think it must be possible.

There are obvious comparisons to the Finn....funny, I have never sailed one so I cannot comment.

I am expecting it to be hard work in a blow but then I am tall and fat....not nice but dim!!! (god how old is that joke?)

Tim

Well tim I think you just might have..

And I'm truly sorry for having doubted you.

Please accept my humblest apologies and I hope you enjoy the boat.

I look forward to reading about it.

Er there is just the one thing though..

You are over 88kgs so should really be joining all the Phantom sailors
in a pit of quick lime by the side of the road. (bit of an in joke you'll get it eventually)

Apologies again.

Got your bank loan sorted?
