Nice.
Is that a quick release lever on the boom bolt? |

One question. 5th picture down showing the blocks on the boom. There are
grooves in the boom to keep the blocks in place.... All very nice looking but surely that's the exact place you DON'T want less thickness in the boom wall?? |

are they not carbon plates glued on to keep the mainsheet strops in place - nothing to do with structural issues?? |

There is a carbon grooved plate attached over the boom.
Look at the first picture. |

I had a good look at the D-One at B.S.C over the weekend.
Although I still have my personal reservations about the look of the boat it also has some very nice lines about it form some directions. And I think that if I have an issue with the look of it, that's why. As from a design perspective there are parts that are truly beautiful and then it's like the designer had a bit of a mad moment. It is undoubtedly a well a very well made boat. And looks nice to sail from what I could see from the light conditions. The one thing I'm not sure about is the thinkness of the daggerboard, which is THICK! But this is a little irrelevant as it is a SMOD. All in all a nicely turned out boat. And from what Rodney was saying about the open meeting formats it should be a pleasant weekend warrior ( and family ) boat. Just my 2p's worth. |

So might not be a bad call as a thick daggerboard ought to be less stall prone coming out of tacks, and also more tolerant of "substantial" sailors standing on the end to try and pull the boat up with the kits still flying... |

regarding all the remarks on the d one recently posted just a quick
note:there is no way to integrate the wings in the hull design, they need to be high otherwise by toutching the water they make life really hard sailing. the centreboard has to be in front of the wings for safety reasonds otherwise to get back onboard after a capsize you ll have to climb outside the wings.not one easy thing to do, being able to put the boat on the roof of the car is not only miles cheaper , you do not need a trailer nor a trailer hitch, but also allows to travel quite a bit faster because of the significat difference between speed limits, with and without a trailer, in europe. design follows function in a boat , even though now that people are seing the real thing the d one is not ugly at all...i actually really like it and all those who have sailed it, did like it alot..anyhow as long as sailors are happy i am happy......if you want to have fun join us in torbole lake garda from the 23 to 25 of october for our first real regatta in bocca al lupo luca devoti |

Nice meeting you at BSC at the weekend Jack. Your Cherub project sounds interesting so please let me know hoiw things are progressing as I would love to see the finished boat. I'll post more info on the open meeting/racing format for the D-One soon. For all that didn't make the test weekend at BSC we had a good time although were a little short of wind at times. Everyone who ventured out in the D-One thouroughly enjoyed themselves and we even had a capsize I would like to thank Burghfield SC for their excellent hosting and support over the weekend, not to mention the beer Flat calm during the weekend - spot the D-One! More later! Rodney Edited by rodney |
