I'm looking at buying an RS800 kite as a step to upgrading to the new rules.  Was just wondering how easy it is to cut the sail down to size?  I'm going to need to cut down my main too.  Is this something that most sail menders will be able to do or will i have to take it to a more speacialist sail makers to get it done?

Very, very easy.  Take a slice from clew to head that is no more than about 4 cm wide at it's widest point (mid point between the two) IIRC.

To be honest this was a bit of an error when the 2005 rule change went through, we should have said that an RS800 kite will measure as is regardless of age.  Although the RS meaurements say 21.5 sqm and ours are 21, they are measured in different ways, you lose nothing like 0.5sqm whn you alter it.

If you meaure it, it may well measure anyway unless it's very old and baggy.  You would really have to be stretching it to make it not measure really!  I really don't think that anyone will mind if you don't make an adjustment...when I did my first yellow kite on Suicide Blonde it was literally a case of cutting the tape off and re-stitching.  You could almost screw up the cut-off piece in one hand and not be able to see any of it poking out from under your fingers!

And my white kite was newer and seemed to measure OK anyway when I checked it...just put the kite on and sail!

Not much to add really...however there is about to be a big dent in my bank account on Monday as I have just ordered all the tubes, boom, bowsprit, spreaders, daggerboard and sleeve from New Zealand.  Hopefully by the time they arrive the hull should have a floor and a spine in it and then she should start to come together quite quickly...
