New top cover?

   OK, ideas for a new top cover for the RS200. Mast up and towing, snap buckles, prefer slit for mast to go to the side as opposed to the bow. PVC is fine.
Anyone bought something good?

	'Sail Register's' covers are cheap and very good quality - the slit for the mast on my Vareo cover goes forward rather than to the side but it might be worth checking with them for your RS200 in case the design is different http://www.sailregister.co.uk/home.cfm P.S. good deals to be had at the shows if you can wait 'til then ?

	Sorry to be a party pooper but my personal experience of Sail Register Covers to date has not been good. Unless they have changed the material they use recently I would not recommend them. I purchased two covers from them for a Sprint 15 and a Comet at about the same time. The material they used on my covers seemed to be an outer PVC shell laminated to a polyester inner shell which on the face of it seemed a good idea. The covers were also competitively priced. However, after a couple of seasons seperation of the shells became evident and after that the outer shell just started to disappear completely. I sold the Comet this year at a reduced price to reflect the value of a new cover required and scrapped the Sprint 15 cover in favour of a much tougher one marketed by Windsport. Other Sprint 15 owners have commented similarly. My N12 has a P&B breathable cover which is old but with reproofing just seems to go on an on. Perhaps i am being unreasonable but I would have thought a PVC cover should be able to withstand the elements for more than a few seasons. Edited by The Moo

	Ahh, that's interesting. I'm after the best quality, not just the cheapest so that's something to bear in mind.

	A breathable cover, made by a sailmaker like P&B or direct from LDC, will provide the best protection for the boat. A solid PVC cover can end up resting on the decks and prevent them from drying out - with a risk of disclouration, mould and even osmosis occuring. Why not go to LDC and buy one of their covers? They know the boats, and presumably know what is best for them. Or go to Pete Vincent, who sails, tunes, sells and repairs them, and ask him!

	I'm really pleased with the 'Rain & Sun' ( www.rainandsun.co.uk ) on the 3000 at the moment. So much so, apparently, that I spontaneously said as much to my crew as we were putting it back on the other day. Good fit, good fastenings and it's showing no signs of wear after a year. Contrast that with the cheap make I had before, the plastic of which succumbed to UV after a very short time - not all cover materials are the same apparently, trouble is you (I) can't spot the difference when new.

	The sail register breathable cover I have has lasted very well indeed, and was far cheaper than any "brand name". I agree with the comments about the PVC ones, though, the top seems to flake off after a season or so.

	I'm going to have to agree with rain and sun. Have a couple of boats with them at club and they are great covers. Couldn't tell you how long they last though
