Having been one of the AOD's for the Lowestoft nationals last year, it must also be pointed out the quality of sailors throughout the Squib fleet. It was a pleasure to watch.....

Squibs not on the top now, but still the highest number at a National Championship for a two person boat - dinghy or keelboat!

Great shot of the Squibs. What always surprizes me when I look at the table is how unpopular trapezing is ... given that hiking is tiresome why do people not want to trapeze more if their water is big enough ....? |

I genuinely believe part of it is a fear of falling in from higher up. That and the fact that a 6ft male is so much more useful on the trapeze than a 5'4" woman, so you limit the number of potential sailors.

There are other reasons too...
Trapeze boats can be pretty frustrating on shift and lull prone inland waters, most especially smaller and treebound venues rather than places like Grafham or Kielder. And there are an amazing number of such clubs... Personally I have more or less given up dangling on wires because I seem to get cramp in my calves frequently... "Time to tack" "Sorry, can't get off the wire until my leg starts working again" Another factor for the more mature sailor is that I think its easier to sail a boat at 7/8s (looking to make up the other 1/8 on superior tactics and wind spotting) if you're sitting on the side rather than dangling on a wire. Mind you I prefer to perch on a plank... Its interesting though the turnouts that supposedly unfashionale classes get... 26 National 18s this week, 58 Miracles for goodness sake... Do we have a single person on the forum that sails either class, yet they are big enough to be significant. It just goes to show how flawed, even pointless it is to attempt to judge popularity by noise on the net. |

On the Attendance table would it be possible to add a few more sorting columns?
Alex Anything else? |
